    If you suspect the hdd is going, go to its manufacturer's site and dl their hdd testing utility.

    What was the initial problem that caused you to need to reinstall?

      she was getting the disk boot error. I got it to boot a few times but it took an hour to just do that. It would start in safe mode sometimes and sometimes not. No matter what it was VERY slow. I've had a XP install on it for the last 4 hours and right now it is at 28% so somethings going on.

      I know enough to get in trouble but not a rocket scientist on these machines

        Hard drives are cheap, just replace it.

          I have a couple hard drives here somewhere, just not sure if thats what it is. the cpu is running extremely slow. I'm not sure if its hard drive or some other hardware. I'll probably pull it apart tonight and atleast reseat everything
