  • Need some help (RDP question)

I have a Windows XP machine at home that I remote in to from work on 2 different Windows 7 machines (one is Windows 7 Ultimate, the other is Windows 7 Professional). The XP machine has two monitors, and both Windows 7 machines at work have two monitors. I want to be able to see both of the XP monitors on my two monitors at work, i.e. left monitor of XP machine on left monitor of Windows 7 machine, and right monitor of XP machine on right monitor of Windows 7 machine. Sounds simple, apparently isn't. Here's the weird part. On the Windows 7 Ultimate machine, this happens automatically, no need for settings changes or dicking around with 3rd party applications; however, on the Windows 7 Professional machine, I can't get it to work. The Windows 7 machines are, other than the OS build, identical; all the settings are the same; and I'm connecting the exact same way, through Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol. Am I missing something here? Is there something in Windows 7 Ultimate that allows this whereas Windows 7 Professional does not? This is pretty critical for the work I have to do, so any and all advice is appreciated.

RDP w/ Multi-monitor support is only in Win7 Ultimate & Enterprise.

Find help and how-to articles for Windows operating systems. Get support for Windows and learn about installation, updates, privacy, security and more.

In Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 7 Enterprise editions, Remote Desktop Connection supports the use of multiple high-resolution displays in a remote session.
