Why should a lawyer, doctor, sales clerks, garbage man, or waitress give a shit how a phone or device works? Its not dumbed down, it is just intelligently designed.

Because you must be an idiot if you don't want to dedicate 15% of every day to fucking with your phone.

Exactly. I love how people in these threads completely miss the fact that the majority of people don't want to spend hours upon hours "customizing" their brand new phone/laptop. Android's biggest selling point is a non-issue for most people.

I own a Fox-Body. The last thing I need is another project to eat up my free time. Apple products do everything I need them to do quickly and easily and they work flawlessly with each other.

The BETA version of iOS6 has an Apple mapping software as the factory-installed map app. I haven't read anything that leads me to believe Google maps won't still be available via the App Store, most likely for free. Not exactly a deal-breaker if you prefer Google Maps.

                  Precisely.

It's a very very VERY small portion of the community that wants to be able to unlock/whore out a phone's OS. It was kinda cool when the iPhone first came out, but tons of people bricking their device and getting told my Apple stores to shove it made it something for the truly tech-savvy. Speaking in terms of cellphones... Mama Jones and Uncle Ted want email, an App for sports scores & local biz locator and some Internet browser accessibility.

I liken it to going into the Armory forum here, and seeing umpteen DOZENS of people (like me!) building AR15s from the ground up. Seems like it really popular, until you realize more than 90% of AR15s are originally sold as a completed rifle from a shop or gun show, and 99% of the population doesn't even own an AR15.

Simplified, 99% of the population want a cell phone that just works without havin to fuck with it. The iPhone succeeds and will succeed with or withou Google maps.

You are very militant in your views, whatever subject we happen to be talking about.

I just switched to a Evo4g with virgin mobile from an I4s from sprint, not because i think it is a better platform, but because I get the service for $35/mo. I don't give a shit about overclocking or undervolting a cpu. I want a phone that can text, surf the web at a decent pace, check email, and use navigation. 95+% of phone users feel exactly the same way I do.

Accept the fact that people think differently than you and some even like Iphones, divorce, atheism etc. We "dumbed down masses" just don't feel like sitting inside tinkering with our phones when we can actually be doing something with our lives, like going outside......in sunlight no less. Our views are in no way inferior to your own, unless you happen to actually BE the God you profess to be saved by.

It appears that my statement has been received in a way I didn't intend. I meant no ill will by what I said, only that it wasn't/isn't a tinkerers OS.

iOS works and well for the masses, but for those of us who enjoy the freedom from restrictions of the oem, it just isn't suitable.

I in no way meant that I'm superior because I prefer Android, just that I prefer android and it's freedom.

I'm one of those people that doesn't want to dick with their phones to make them work. I'm getting a new phone in the coming months, but I haven't decided if I'm going to stay with the iOS or make the jump to Android.

Same, I'm still waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S3 to come to Sprint.

Edit: I can preorder the S3 in white or blue. Just did that. Woohoo.
