I got a pretty gnarly OC goin on my new FX-8120. It's a native 3.1Ghz proc.

One day, when I win the lotto, I want you to build me a gaming PC! Nice OC work there. What util is that?

I'd be happy to build ya somethin and thanks. The util that's shown is CPU-Z. It's the "standard" for verifying oc and whatnot. The widgets on the right are available from the Windows marketplace.

What surprised me more than anything was the fact that it only needed a measly 0.075v bump over stock for a stable 1.4ghz oc.

What kind of cooling are you using? Water or just air?

It's a water cooler for dummies, Corsair H-80.

Gaming/high end PCs and racing are two things I miss, but my budget thanks me. Sure is fun messing around in both though.

Fwiw, there's just a touch over 400 tied up in this box. AMD=cheap, cost wise.

                Nice!

I bumped my 3820 up to 4.2 GHZ stable from 3.6 confirmed in burn-in, without bumping the VCore (1.2V).

Most OC'ers are taking it to 5.0 on 1.3 VCore. Mine cost a tad more than that.

I'm afraid to go any hire than 4.2 with the air cooler.

had my i7 at 4.6 without issues. Air cooled. Cooler is massive though, had to remove some stuff in the case to close the door.

I have a large full size case Rosewill Thor V2 (White) and a good fan, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. Maybe I'll nut up eventually and clock higher, but at 4.2, it does everything I need and then some.

Any real downside to building a budget AMD home workstation vs. Intel? I don't do anything crazy, but hate upgrading/like using a system for a long time.

none, my third system is "old" amd 1045t, 785g chipset, 4gb ram, and a 7770. plays every game out today. and was around 400/450 to build as opposed to my hex/tri-fire rig and 2600/7k rig.
