I got a samsung captivate . Model SGH-I897 . I was having some bluetooth trouble with the phone . I am always using th phone in the car so i need bluetooh to work . So i used samsung kies to update my phone cause i found out that the new update fixes some bluetooth problems . I went from 2.2 froyo to 2.3.5 gingerbread .

Well it fixed the bluetooth problem . But i just traded one problem for another . Now the wifi on the phone wont work . I use that all the time in my house since i have the crappy 200 mega byte plan . So i use the wifi so i make sure not to get any overages . I think that an indicator here may be that the mac address says unavailable . When you try to turn on the wifi, it just turns itself right back off in like 5 seconds . It tries to come on but it never can . It scans for networks but then it just turns right off .

    On Gingerbread build as well.

No problems with Wifi since upgrade. My suggestion is to go into Mobile backup and restore and sync everything to the cloud, then do a hard reset.

Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory reset

          Backup first.

What error are you getting? Does wifi turn itself back off w/out ever connecting?

Yes i been watching youtube vids on the subject and i did the factory reset . But it wont undo the update to 2.3.5 for some reason . It just reset a bunch of my settings and reinstalled a bunch of AT&T apps and stuff

Well i dont think that it ever really shows a error . And yeah when i try to turn wifi on, it tries for a second . Then it just shuts right back off without ever really connecting . There is one weird thing . Under mac address is says unavailable .

Since you've already done a factory reset and lost all your personal config/data/apps, I ha even a friend and Android Developer making a brief write up w/links for needed items, for you on how to correct this.

Yeah they say the captivate runs 4.0.4 and doesn't bog down . So i may just switch to that one if i cant figure this out somehow . See if that works .

Ok so it is basically an Odin that some how already have the necessary files in it ? I dont have to tell it where i placed the correct pda file on my computer ? Look like you posted links to two different odin, and no new firmware files for th phone .

I am still barely understand this stuff . Been reading a lot and watching a lot of vids . Learned more about adroid than i ever thought i would LOL !

Yes. The ROM package is simply plug in your phone in download mode, look got the yellow box that says com4 (or any number), and hit start. No need to place files anywhere.if you choose to root, the directions are there in the root package folder.
