After the storm last Wed, my computer wouldn't connect to the net. It still works, but has no internet connection. I hooked the laptop up, and it works fine. I noticed the power supply fan does not come on (should it always run?) Is there a possiblilty a part of the power supply is out? Any suggestions?

Power supply shouldn't prevent your onboard (I'm assuming) NIC from shitting out. MOBO probably just took a hit and that part fried. Try to reinstall the drivers for it first. If that fails then get a separate NIC and see what that does. Hell, you can even get a USB Ethernet adaptor and rout the network through USB if you wanted to.How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

I sort of understand that! I'm about as computer dumb as it gets. I don't know how to reinstall the drivers, but the USB adapter sounds like a good idea. This thing is about 10 years old, but I don't really want to replace it now. Thanks for the ideas, going to look and see about the drivers.sigpic

** edit The power supply fan has no bearing on Internet connectivity. But on most computers it does run all the time. Do the steps above like Geoff said above first though that seems on point. Again use both comps to figure out what the mainframe is not doing..lLast edited by Couver; 06-04-2012, 08:47 PM.

Ping me if you still need that power supply. I have one, I think.
