Flash is d.e.a.d. You can still do stuff with it but it is not a long term skill.

If you read what I wrote, I use titanium studio which cross compiles to Android and ios. Blackberry? Why bother, they have such a small market share...same with windows phone.

Of course I don't write games... I write business apps so I don't have to sell a million to a million people but just sell licenses to businesses which is more money
Have you ever heard of Zynga? They make millions of dollars a day off flash games on facebook. Farmville and all those games are written in flash. The Starling engine in case you didn't check was used by the creators of Angry Birds (Rovio). And now that it ports to a phone flawlessly, is supported by Android, iPhone and Blackberry, and costs nothing to use, I'd say that flash is just getting started.

Ya I've heard of those guys... and I'm not saying that there isn't a market there. But flash, as a skillset, is not one I'd want to re-invest in (I learned it years ago, and flex). I'm likely at a different place in my life than you and I am not interested in hitching my wagon to a technology that frankly is dead in 99.99% of cases (flash, silverlight, air, WP7, etc.). If you can carve out some gold from the mountain with it, I'm not going to stop you, but in my experience, people with NO skills trying to learn a skill to make money now, are always behind the curve and need to look to the future rather than what's hot "now."

Again, I don't write games (I have, but only for an exercise to see how it's done). I write boring business applications that aren't sexy, but they have a more long term profit potential than a $0.99 (well $0.66 after Apple takes their cut) app (recurring revenue >>> on the hamster wheel of new shiny games).

I think for the OP, we can all agree that this G5 isn't worth the effort required to do anything but throw it away.

(been coding since the DOS/mainframe days, so what's old is new again over and over).

Reading through it now. Seems interesting... I might have one of my guys do a sample project to see if we can incorporate it into our toolset. I'm not seeing clearcut instructions on how to actually go from the flex -> iOS. Maybe I'm just missing something.

OS X 10.6 and later requires an Intel processor, too.

Actually a very good conversation to read. Thanks for everyone's input!

Yes, I too believe that I will be scrapping this box and recycling the aluminum case if I can.

            However, this caught my attention.

I too have been coding since DOS. Very business specific and some times proprietary languages. I cut my teeth on C back in the early 90's and will have to do some work to come up to speed on the latest iteration of C++, no big deal. However, I do want to continue pushing myself and I believe it would be a foolish move not to get into the mobile scene.
As far as what kind of app I would produce.... To be honest, I'm not quite sure. My career has been in business with the whole "maintenance and reoccurring revenue" stream. (Specifically logistics focusing on Small Parcel Carrier Rating and Compliance EDI/Labeling/Manifesting.) So, I would probably go the typical route of "playing" in the code first and then find a niche to fill in the logistics realm. (Now I'm just rambling.)

Goofy, where are you located? Perhaps we could get together at a sports bar, grab a beer, and shoot the proverbial techno-shit?
