  • Western Digital you son of a bitch

One of my RAID drives shit the bed last night. I went to sit down and my system bluescreened, rebooted with a S.M.A.R.T. warning/failure to boot. Luckily since I keep it in RAID 1 configuration I still had a backup... but get this... my other drive failed a scan... so it's going bad also. I moved over all essential data to my Ark drive....

So, I bought a Crucial M4 128GB SSD for my system files... a new dawn has arrived. I did my homework and settled on the Crucial, it was between the M4 or the Samsungs. It's one of the fastest SATA III's on the market so it should be pretty killer.

Crucial M4's are beasts. Nice purchase. I'm Jelly.

WD failed me big time, lost all my overseas pics...etc...etc and it was not that old. That is when I learned that all important data needs to be in 2 places.

Data needs to be in three places. Offsite, DVD backup, On-Site and RAID.

RAID is enough for me. DVD doesn't make any sense for the kind of work I do, most of my work wouldn't even fit on a dual layer.

Dual raid setup here (PC and quad drive bay NAS) with offsite backup on a VPS in Dallas (I live in College Station). If I ever lost my code I would be homeless.

Yeah, my critical data gets backed up to quite a few places. Normal/personal data, just 2, maybe 3 depending on how lazy I am at the time.

I meant like copies of photo albums. Like one disc for each one.

If it's a reasonable file size I'll just gmail it to myself, stored forever

See if you can get the Egg to pricematch.

edit: actually for some reason I thought you got the drive from Newegg but now I see you didnt list who you got it from. Not sure why I assumed the Egg though.

I'm happy with my adaptec ssd raid (which is faster than those Fusion drives).
