  • PC Recommendation: Video Editing

Bah, my work laptop is not handling the video editing too well lol.

I need a new PC and I really don't feel like building my own again. This will be for video editing. What aspects of a PC are important for video editing? Processor, memory? Any desktops ya'll would recommend?

    1. Desktop
    2. I already have a monitor
    3. Budget 500-700

    Help!

What kind of scale video editing are we speaking of here?

Hell, just a good video card can set you back 250-300 bones....

Plus large scale video editing can be very CPU\Memory intensive, so you're probably not looking at a low end machine here...

video editing for only $500? good luck if you are referring to HD.

I have an i7 920 overclocked to 4ghz, 12gigs of ram, two raid 0 setups with a another harddrive for files(two wd blacks 1tb in raid0, another two wd blacks 1tb in raid 0, then another wd black 1tb)and 3 video cards(two 560ti's and a 9800gtx) and it's still a pain in the ass on my setup.

I'm waiting for the new 8 core lga2011 chips to come out and I'll upgrade my mobo/processor. Might go ahead and update to SSD for the operating system/software.

Running Three monitors is a big plus video editing also...

if you are building specifically for video editing, build a hackintosh and dual boot with windows 7

I'm using Pinnacle to edit my GoPro videos at 720. I don't really need something super super efficient, but something decent.

The laptop I'm using now is a Dell D630 running 3GB of ram. It seems to be kind of bugging out.

Over budget but should do what you're looking to do just fine.
