  • How do you remove a Vonage router?

My cable comes into the house, into the cable modem, then from modem to ethernet cable to Vonage router, then from Vonage router to wireless router, then to desktop.

I am cancelling Vonage and installing a Magic Jack (because I have to have a home phone as a condition of employment and I hardly use my home phone).

I thought I could just take the ethernet line that comes out of the Vonage modem and plug it directly into the cable modem thereby bypassing the Vonage modem, but when I do it shows I have no internet.

    WTF?

Ethernet out of your cable modem should go in to the WAN port(might be labeled internet depending on brand) on your router.

i have vonage and i just have their standard issue dlink phone adapter. however, it's an easy process to solve your problem.

#1 - verify that you have the cable modem ethernet cable plugged into the router's WAN port. power down both cable modem and router. turn cable modem on and then router. check your internet connection.

#2 - if that fails to work, then call your ISP tech support and ask them to release/unregister the mac address of the vonage router and register the mac address of the wireless router. they should walk you through the process of doing that or how to clone the mac address in your wireless router. inform them of the changes you made.
