    Wife's iphone...

When I try to use youtube to play videos, I don't get any sound and don't get the "volume bars" on bottom. It works when I plug in some headphones. When I'm at the home screen and try to turn up/down volume, there are no bars either. When I call it, it rings, you can talk on it and put it on speaker, and works perfect. That is what doesn't make sense to me.

    any ideas??

I did a full restore and still didn't work. Might take it apart, but seeing if maybe someone had another idea?

No need to take it apart. It will be a software issue.

I'm pretty sure that Apple has sent out a virus of sorts that makes our phones act funny so we will be more inclined to buy a new one. Mine started playing ICP as I was in the middle of a call. I never use my ipod and it took me a while to figure out it was coming from that app.

OOOooooor.... That big solar flare we had screwed with it in some way.

mine got stuck in headphone mode or acted like yours is, only way to talk on the phone was by using speaker phone.

Apple told me to blow out any lint or anything that could get caught in the ear phone jack hole.

After that didnt work, they narrowed it down to a faulty volume controls on the side.

theres enough threads about iphone repairs going on now that either my contact or one of the others can get your fixed up

I've taken these apart before, so I should be able to replace whatever part needs replacing. Just weird that everything works like normal till you want to use youtube app. Sounds like a software issue, but after restoring it, kind of tells me it's a hardware that is about to go out. I'll go price check the volume button and jack parts.

Ain't that some shit....Got home and took the air can to it and wiped inside the jack and the dock connector and nothing. Phone was about to die so I hooked it up again so it can charge. Took it off and damn thing works. Guess something was lodge in between the copper strips or something.

FYI the iPhone 3 has a habit of forgetting whether it's in speaker or headphone mode. Next time, just take a headphone jack and plug it in and remove it several times fairly quickly. It'll start working again.
