  • Who here fixes computers?

I have a Toshiba A355 Satellite laptop that has a problem and I'd like to give my money to someone on here to get it fixed.

It's nothing major, the socket that the power supply goes into broke and now it won't charge.

If you think you can knock this out just shoot me a PM with a price. I'm in Plano so the deciding factor will probably come down to proximity. I'm swamped this week but I can drop it off Saturday afternoon.

    Thanks.

Hopefully its nothing major. If the socket came unsoldered its a relatively easy repair once the computer is taken apart. If the mainboard is damaged or the traces are broken it could be a bit more challenging. I've fixed a few laptops with that problem where people yanked on the cord or put strain on the cable when it was plugged in. If the actual socket is damaged I would have to locate a source for the part (prolly Ebay). If you wanna bring it to Red Oak I could do it...but thats a drive.

Alright, I'll keep that in mind. I'm not going to hold you to it, but if you had to ballpark a worst case scenario price what do you think would be a good guess?

Worst case scenario...motherboard is cracked or the traces are broken..probably not worth repairing..but I doubt its that bad.

Plug damaged beyond repair..but replaceable with new plug requiring desoldering old one and soldering in new one...assuming part is readily available...about 75 bucks plus part.

Broken solder connections only (resoldering the old plug back to the motherboard)...honestly...75 bucks provided you bring it to me and then come pick it back up when its fixed (the cost is due to the process of completely disassembling the laptop to make repairs and then putting it back together which is a pretty labor intensive job that requires a lot of patience..and may even require installing new heat sink grease on the processor/video chip if they have to be removed.
