  • RAM question

Ok so I have a G73Jh laptop with 6 gigs of ram but I need more fucking ram. I ran the Crucial Scan thing and this it what it says:

    Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 (non-ECC)
    Maximum Memory: 12GB
    Currently Installed Memory: 6GB
    Total Memory Slots: 3
    Available Memory Slots: 0

Each memory slot can hold DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-12800 with a maximum of 8GB Kit (4GBx2) per slot.*

Question is... because apparently I'm just too fucking retarded to comprehend this at the moment. Can I get 3 sticks of 4GB which would equal 12 GB and be fine? Yes I'm running 64 bit win 7. For some reason I keep thinking it's telling me I can only have a total of 8GBs...

The max for the motherboard is 12. The max per slot is 8. 3 4 gig sticks will work.

I dont think Win7 has a problem with that much memory, but i am not certain.

Win 7 is going to handle it just fine. I've got 24gb and it runs like a champ.

The crucial is giving you conflicting information though - it says you can run 8GB per slot (and you have three slots) giving a max memory of 24GB...yet the list for maximum is 12GB.

He may be right about the board being tapped out, but either way you will be fine popping 3 4GB sticks in each slot for a total of 12.

Yeah I would do 3 sticks of 4gb and I would recommend Kingston Hyper X PnP. That stuff is real good in notebooks and its plug n play so no need to mess with bios settings.

What the hell are you doing on a laptop that needs more than 6 gigs of RAM?

No worries regarding Windows 7 x64. It can address that much RAM, which is an awful lot IMO. I have 4 GB of Kingston DDR3 Dual channel 400Mhz FSB on my work laptop with a Intel Dual Core processor. I have plenty of overhead. And use it to build websites, WordPress, vBulletin, FTP, Cpanel, phpBB, running photoshop, multimedia, etc...

I'm assuming this is for gaming. That's a lot of memory for a client machine.

I game on this laptop, and I use to be able to bot 2 wows and play other games but now it's getting tight.
