  • Windows 7 recovery disk

    Fixing a laptop for a user at work they did not create/have a recovery disk for the laptop. Virus attached itself to windows essential files and when I went to clean them screw up windows and will not boot in to it. I found this site to d/l a recovery disk seems legit.(Yes I already tried the obvious fixes for windows)

    Have you slaved the drive and run chkdsk /f or /x?

        I'll say this too, make an entire image of the disk prior to doing anything else. A non-booting image is better than unrecoverable/corrupted data.

          Does the system hard drive have a "recovery partition" from the manufacturer with a .wim image file?

          If it does, you should be able to boot from any XP\Vista\PE install CD and access the backup image for restore....

          You can also burn a "recovery CD" which will boot you into the recovery environment from any working Win7 or XP O/S.

            Yes I did try that...but I was in luck I was able to find someone with a win7 machine and made a disk from them appreciate the help fellas.

                If it's a factory restore disc for a different machine, it is useless for you. Plus, the key is built in and wont pass activation.

                  I think he was actually talking about a "recovery disk", which is different than an install\restore disk.

                  Although I have been known to be wrong a lot, just ask Smurfette....
