I gotta say Skyrim is pretty far up there but Borderlands is probably the winner because of the multiplayer. Old school I would say Rock 'N Roll racing, an old school SNES racing game made by Blizzard.

A toss up between Interstate 76, or a excellent, but little known game made by Activision called Time Commando. You go through like 7 different time zones and have to fight enemies to get to your portal to win and move on.

Horrible yet wonderful game.

The 3d stuff in i76 look horrible today, but man was it an awesome game back in da' day.
