  • SLI not working

Ok, decided to try out SLI for once this weekend so bought another GTX 460 (evga for both)

Popped it into my 990fx Gigabyte board (ud3), connected the bridge and booted it up.

Windows sees both cards, gpu-z sees both, nvidia control panel does not give me an SLI option.

I was using latest beta drivers.

Uninstalled the drivers, told Windows to not use Windows Update to get any.

Downloaded latest stable release, still same problem.

I updated the bios on my motherboard.

After looking this up I found a TON of people with this issue and no real resolution, I have heard about SLI for years so assumed this was a reliable technology by now.

    Any hints?

Take a screenshot of gpu-z and of nvidia control panel (where it says sli configuration).

Card is boxed up ready to go back to store. Trust me on this, instead of sli, it says physx.

Only diff is the memory timings are diff between the 2.

Last ditch effort to ask if anyone has run into this and what they did.

Not going to leave it in there if it's not working right.

I'm guessing you already did what he listed as his "fix" ?

Used DriverSweeper to remove everything from Nvidia, uninstall drivers + software via Device Manager too. Reboot, install latest WHQL.

Have you tried using the cards in different pci-e slots?

I actually haven't ran drivesweeper yet, I can do that.

I just tried the "realtek driver fix" still did it.

I only have 2 pci E slots to play with, there is a 3rd but runs at x4.

Btw, numerous people have had this issue, different resolutions, but not many that I found.

Working all the time, I really don't have time to fully troubleshoot this shit and really don't want to honestly. But I don't want to give up.

                    I ran driver sweeper.

Switched the cards around on the slots.

Booted up, 1st vid card said could not start device (device manager)

So I changed the power connections up, still same thing.

Went ahead and installed the drivers, reboot, both cards show up in device manager fine, but no SLI option in Nvidia Control Panel.

Ill go ahead an suggest posting this up at www.hardforum.com and asking them. There are some really smart guys over there BUT its crawling with trolls so dont be surprised when you get dipshits crowding up your post with nothing but unhelpfull negativity. Im probably being a bit dramatic but there are some serious trolls over there.

What was the exact error? Sounds like an IRQ conflict.

                            Yeah it's a 750watt power supply.

Yeah I ran it solo, ran fine.

Roliath: The could not start error went away after I installed the Nvidia drivers, it showed both 460's with no issues.

I'll see what they say on HardOCP.
