This is normal for Charter customers. It has to do with a lot of things, but two of them are no maximum latency standards and too many hops. If you ping just your Charter WAN gateway, you'll notice the ping times tell a different story. Also, Speedtest is quite popular and gets hit hard 24/7

Try using http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/bw.asp and choose the Dallas server. And see if your ping times come down a bit. Probably will do to less hops and less load.

True. Nothing wrong for Charter customers, but most other ISPs sans a satellite shot, it's less than desirable for gaming/stable HD video streams without having the device doing frequent speed renegotiation with the video server,e.g.,Netflix.

This is just me doing a quick Speedtest using a cheap Amazon USB Wireless G USB dongle on my laptop. My ISP is FIOS. Windows 7 with no modifications to the OS TCP stack with the one exception of having receive window auto-tuning disabled. 3 - 5ms ping is the norm over the home Wi-Fi network averaging a signal strength of -52dBm

It's good to see Charter bumping speeds, so don't take me wrong. However, I've seen this to be a consistent issue with Charter. Speed is great, but latency and jitter is problematic for gamers and streamers.

Well, according to My Account details/billing, I have the VZ FiOS 25M/15M SFU for $39.99/mo. However, I'm certain it's actually the 25M/25M plan. And that's because I jumped on the bandwagon back in '08 when the Wiki leak hit the web about FIOS restructuring all their tier packages and possible free upgrades. Verizon then instructed their customer service reps. to follow a honor, but not offer policy. Everybody initially thought it was fake, but dslreports was all over it. If you called and specifically requested it from a supervisor, you got the upgrade for free. And the price hasn't changed for me in three years.

I'm remotely logged into my desktop at home right now and I just ran it again. Ping is the same as my wireless laptop, but got the full allocated bandwidth because the Desktop is plugged into my Linksys router with dd-wrt firmware.

I went home and restarted my modem to see if I had any speed increase. Speedtest.net was not loading properly.

                    This was with speakeasy.net

                    Last Result:
Download Speed: 46152 kbps (5769 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3194 kbps (399.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Restarted Firefox and it now works.

                      Still the same slow Upload.

Cool - I can get that plan for 5$ more per month. Trying to decide if it is worth it or not.
