  • Corrupted files windows xp

Without reinstalling windows xp is there any way to install or overlay to fix corrupted files?

I got a virus and now can't connect to the Internet. No admin folder. No access to firewall. And various other things.

The virus is gone but now I'm left with a useless old laptop and don't want to clear the hdd and reinstall everything.

A repair install will rewrite the patched files but your infection isn't all gone.

You may also try reinstalling the last service pack, that sometimes works (depending on which files are corrupted/damaged).

Tried the service pack and it wouldn't complete the installation then made it worse. Going to try the repair install first. As far as the virus it was xp security 2012 and I used malwarebytes with an update from a USB. Any other suggestions?

format, trying to recover after system files have been corrupted is just a nightmare.

Run sfc /scannow from a command prompt.
