good deal. some of the best plastic housing "computer speakers" you can get.

i had posted on canada my mods to my set, here is a link to a repost of it:
I posted this on another message board but now that i'm a member here, it makes much more sense for this thread to be here: ? I have a set of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers for my computer.? They sound pretty decent but they were a little rough outside and the wiring on them was shotty. If...

still need to finish mine up one day by adding an amp and ditching the control mechanism.

I have a set and I have been very happy. Sub messed up after about 8 years and they sent me a new one for $20.

These speakers are the BOMB. I originally purchased a 4.1 set back in 1998. I still use them as my rear satellite speakers in my home theater and they are kicking ass. I have never seen a more powerful tiny satellite in my life. People VERY often think there is someone in the room when they hear the rear channels go off, shit even I do. That's comparing them to ultra high end sats like Kef. I even used the sub in my home theater setup for about 5 years - all of them are still kicking. There is a know issue with the 5.1 system's amplifier going out prematurely due to heat, but they have fixed it. For $94 there is absolutely no question. The bass of the system will blow you away. It'll be at 10-20% so it doesn't knock pictures off across the house.

It should also mention that I have smashed, stepped on, banged, and even cracked the satellites and they still work.

oh also FWIW, after i modded my klipsh promedia 2.1, i like them enough to buy their promedia ultra 5.1 setup without the subwoofer + controller for a good deal.

the ultra has "upgraded" drivers. the tweeter is a bit brighter which is fine but the mid-range cone is a synthetic material probably designed to output more sound but it is completely lifeless and flat. they may have dicked with the crossover as well to bring the levels up and give more responsibility to the subwoofer.

the original promedia uses paper or paper-type material that actually had some depth and soul. much better IMO.

i was going to move the upgraded silver colored drivers to my blue speakers so it looked more but i threw that idea out as soon as i heard them. i wound up taking the ultras apart for paint. never finished and they are in storage for now.

agreed, rocking the paper as well. Aluminum cones in particular are good for highs and response, but they lack richness/fullness. If I wanted to go straight baller, I'd amplify using vacuum tubes.

i've considered doing it and would if the right deal presented itself.
at work i use an ipod/phone dock hooked up to a 12au7 tube amp for my headphones.

the thing that stops me from getting a small desktop tube amp is
#1 price. those little bastards are expensive.
#2 lack of sub control. pretty much confined to 2 channel audio and would have to have a good preamp to output a 2nd set of RCA or a mono out to the sub.

i do have a crazy notion (and a spare Harman Kardon AVR 525 in storage).
i can run a fiber optic to the receiver from my computer. power the two fronts and run the sub off the LFE sub out.

it would just require me to install a single female RCA end on the sub instead of the ps2 style serial input and install a potentiometer for the sub volume control.

Yes it's possible for sure. I have an HK Tube amp from the 60's. I use standard RCA input for each pair of channels. As for sub input - most older stereos did not have separate subs, that became more popular with digital systems. I have a pair of 22" loudspeakers for my setup, and they are crystal clear throughout the band.

citation amps are tits. ive used the citation 7.1 (which is just a name, it's a 4 channel bridgable amp). 2 x 450w at 8 ohms bridged!

i was using a manley orman 2 ch integrated for a bit.
the lady at manley installed a single sub out on it.
not sure if you can see my album on facebook, if not add me. it was a sweet amp.

I have these, and I bought them for $150 in June or so. They are pretty badass for what they are.

Awesome setup, I've got a set boxed up I'm not even using right now; waiting to build a new workstation to unbox them.

They sound REALLY REALLY good. JasonRR has a set of these too, you will hear same feedback from him.

                            That sure is purdy.

How does the tube amp compare to a SS?

Typically good tube amps sound amazing since they are pure class A amplification meaning no distortion is created during the amplification stage like class a/ab.

They do have their own nuances just like turntables along with operating at full power even at min volume while putting out a tremendous amount of heat but damn I love them!
