Anyone familiar with these? My mother in law was wanting one for Christmas but heard there are some bugs with them? Anyone have personal experience with one?

my dad wants to get one for my mom, but I told him to just get her an ipad2 instead.

There are bugs for everything. The Kindle Fire is inexpensive and you can do the basics but it is not going to be an iPad or Android tablet - that's for sure.

Same here. My GF is using the kindle app on her smart phone and I figured a nook or kindle fire would be a lot better. I've got good eyes and I still don't see how she reads books on that small screen.

I was in the same boat and picked up a nook which was $50 more than the kindle. Most reviews like cnet favored the nook for it's ease and storage capabilities over the kindle.

I was comparing the Fire and Nook and went with the Nook. Nook has 16GB of storage which is expandable to 32GB, which is a big plus for me because I'll load some movies for my wife. I say, go with the Nook.

After reading a few of those reviews I think I should take a better look at the Nook.

They are just android tablets, why not buy an ASUS Transformer?

Price, since I just bought my truck and until I'm done school (and stop buying other "stupied" toys) that $1-150 makes a big difference.

Are there other comparable tablets that are better than the fire or nook that are still around $250?

I have a nook color. It's a good little tablet, but honestly, I rarely use it.

i bought a Fire for my mom. but she can't have it until christmas.

I bought her the kindle 3g a few years back and it's been glued to her hand since the day i gave it to her. So, i figured the fire would be a good upgrade.
