So I write Windows based software for a living and I'm REALLY thinking about getting into the iOS world. However, to do so I believe I need a Mac. Now the question.... which freak'n one?!?! I've dodged the "M" word for almost 20 years now and have completely lost track of what each machine does, it's value, do/don't get, etc. I'd LIKE to have a laptop I suppose but are they powerful enough? Hell, I don't even know what is required for Mac Development work! rofl.... Any of you yahoo's know anything about these weird 1 button mouse things?!?!

Well do you want a laptop? Or do you want a desktop?
I've got a 10' 13inch mbp, but I just use it for itunes sync and mail now. my imac is nieces now also.
Pretty much, pick your max price and laptop/desktop and go from there. You can use whatever mouse you like on them aswell.

You really don't need a Mac, you just need OS X. $30 (for the retail disc) and a little work and you can install it on a PC.
And if you like Visual Studio or any decent IDE, you'll hate XCode.Originally posted by BroncojohnnyHOORAY ME and FUCK YOU!

Buy a used 2010 or newer Macbook Pro 13, 15, or 17 and call it a day unless you have the money laying around to get a new one (Microcenter in Richardson has the best prices on Macbook Pros of all the retailers I've searched). I bought the 13" because its lightweight and has a VERY long battery runtime..but the speakers on it are pretty limited and it only comes with 2 USB ports. The newest ones have either the I5 or the I7 processor. The new Mini does NOT come with an optical drive built in..don't know if you would care about that but it would be a deal breaker for me. And if you like Winblows...you'll be happy to know that there are multiple ways of running whatever flavor of Windows you want on them (I run Win7 64 bit Home Premium thru Boot Camp on mine).

Great responses ya'll. Thanks! I'll look into the Mini's. I've been scouring Craig's List all morning looking for a good deal. If anyone has a cheapy Mac laying around that would suffice for some dabbling in the xCode world let me know. I want to see this environment first, especially after the "you'll hate xCode" response..... I did NOT enjoy coding from scratch back in the day......Originally posted by Taya Kyle, American GunThere comes a time when honest debate, serious diplomatic efforts, and logical arguments have been exhausted and only men and women willing to take up arms against evil will suffice to save the freedom of a nation or continent.

And enjoy methods with more than a couple of parameters!
Java/C#:Code:Foo foo = new Foo(); foo.DoSomething(arg1, arg2);
Code:Foo foo = [[Foo init] alloc]; [foo doSomething:arg1 arg2:arg2];
