          need to bootcamp it first

also, I think to reinstall you need to download a retail disc and not some random .dmg file. look for the gray dvd torrents, and make sure its for your model of macbook. why not just install lion?

17inch iMacs' are rocking 2gb mobile 6970's, great little video cards. My 5850m plays BF3 all on high with vsync enabled (or I get tearing) with 30~45fps (1600x900p).

The current OS is actually leopard so I would have to upgrade before I could upgrade to Lion.

What are the specs on the Macbook in question? You can install Lion IF it is a Core 2 Duo...and i believe it needs at least 2gb of ram. If it is one of the older Core Duo models Snow Leopard is the highest OS you can install according to Apple. I've used Lion and I wasn't that impressed...and it seemed like it ran a little slower than Snow Leopard.

It'll run Lion and you MIGHT be able to get 3gb of ram to work by using either 2 separate 2gb modules, or 1 2gb module and 1 1gb module (thats according to Apple specs). Depending on its build date and the motherboard it MIGHT register the full 4gb...but I doubt it. Some of the early models would only accept 2gb MAX, while the later 07-08 models could see 3gb..the most recent ones made sometime in mid 08 and later could utilize the full 4gb. Unless there is something specific you need from Lion I would use Snow Leopard..it will run faster. Memory is DIRT ass cheap for them if you search Ebay...and the memory is not some SPECIAL Apple memory...it uses standard DDR2 PC5300 laptop memory.

I got it booted and I was ready to install Lion but it said minimum is 2gb.... here are the specs for my macbook. It should support up to 2. I wanted to upgrade the ram anyways though but almost bought Apple branded ram.

                          Also, isn't it bad to have a 1x1gb + 1x2gb?

It won't be that big of a difference.
