Macbook help pt.2

Ok, here is whats wrong best i can explain now:

My wifes Macbook is having an issue not being able to type any letters, the eject button prompts for shut down, and can't log out other user. I have tried repairing thru utilities, but no luck. And when logged in under other user, background is blue and cannot access any apps at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

crazy, never seen a mac do this before.
I would hmm, prolly boot to like snow leopard dvd and repair perms, etc through that. If that don't work, take it to the geniuses.


edit: is the drive an ssd or hdd? I do recall my mac doing some stupid shit with my ssd on coldboots similar to what you said about the blue background and not opening apps. I had to reseat my ssd occasionally to fix this.

I can't tell. How do you find out? i went into about this computer and couldn't find anything to tell me. It also has a Macintosh HD installed too.

It probably has a mechanical drive if it isn't an air or you didn't specifically buy it with one.

i'm not even sure what the problem is, if you can't type any letters how do you pass the login the screen? if you hit eject, the laptop powers down?

Yrs, if you hit eject it prompts to shut down. As far as logging in, her user comes up, and her p/w is blank.

Was ANYTHING spilled on the keyboard...even slightly? Macbooks do NOT respond well to liquid at all. If you have a USB keyboard plug that in and see if it works. IF the keyboard was damaged somehow you can either take it to the Apple store for replacement OR you can buy keyboards on Ebay for about 20 bucks and replace it yourself (I've done a dozen or so of them). If the HDD boots up then there's likely nothing wrong with the drive. Common symptom of HDD failure on the Macbook is a flashing question mark in the center of the gray bootup screen...OR the HDD will make loud clicking sounds.

1.Shut down the computer.
2.Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3.Turn on the computer.
4.Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5.Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6.Release the keys.

If it helps any, my 14yo step son was on it when all of this came about. He has been known to brick a computer in a heartbeat. I thought Macs were able to avoid viruses.

I highly doubt its a virus. If u want someone to look at it without taking it apple I refurbish and rebuild macbooks all the time. Its prolly something simple.
