The GTX 580M takes the place of the GTX 485M, and NVIDIA's bragging that it's the "fastest notebook GPU ever," capable, we're told, of besting the Radeon HD 6970M's tesselation performance by a factor of six. The new GTX 570M, meanwhile, promises a 20 percent speed boost over the last-generation 470M. Both 40-nanometer cards support DirectX11, OpenCL, PhysX, CUDA, 3D Vision, Verde drivers, Optimus, SLI, and 3DTV Play. As for battery life, NVIDIA's saying that when coupled with its Optimus graphics switching technology, the 580M can last through five hours of Facebook, but last we checked, that's not why y'all are shelling out thousands for beastly gaming rigs. You can find the 580M in the Alienware M17X and M18X (pictured) starting today, though you might have to wait a week or so for them to ship. Meanwhile, the 570M is shipping in the MSI GT780R as you read this, and you'll also find the 580M in a pair of 3D-capable Clevo laptops: the P170HM3 and the SLI-equipped P270WN. Handy chart full 'o technical details after the break. Update: An MSI rep has let us know that contrary to earlier reports, the GT780R is not currently available with the 570M graphics card. The company added that it will offer some unspecified laptop with the 570M sometime in the "near" future. It's unclear if that laptop will, in fact, be the GT780R.

looks like it was last months model.

Yep looked at the sagers and clevo's and while I can respect their performance, they have the asthetics of a school bus. I know thats some ricer mentality but I would like a decent keyboard and audio for that kind of money.

Honestly Im sold on the MSI or if I decide to splurge Ill go with the alienware.

not bad, i hope you called in your order as opposed to ordered online.
I saved a good 250 by doing that when I got my m15x.

and way glad to see you didn't fall into the nvidia trap with the 580!

No I did it online. I did find a $150 coupon and I get a discount through work although not much. One thing I found comical was Dell charges extra if you want to talk to someone here in the states for support as opposed to India. I got the extended accidental warranty but Ill be calling India, lol.

And no, the nvidia cards are WAY too much and little to no advantage over the 6990M's.

That is one sexy laptop, and the 6990M is suppose to be the fastest mobile video card out, bet it runs everything nice and silky smooth.

I got the hybrid hard drives because I cant afford 2 SSD's, one would have too little storage and I wasnt sure how it would have handled Raid0 with one SSD and one HDD. I figured the dual hybrids would work best but I have no expirience with them.

well they are not that much fast than the 485's, like very very small bump in performance. amd wins this one hands down price/performance.

Even with US support you don't call into US, everytime I've had to deal with tech support my calls were routed to central america or something like that.

Also, repaste the cpu/gpu's immediately my m15x's quad and 5850 were caked with thermal paste.

Yeah I was thinking about repasting since I have to take it down as far as I do to get to the 2 RAM DIMM's under the keyboard.
