  • Windows Media Center + Xbox = ?

What is the point? My laptop is picking up my xbox and wanting to connect. What is the benefit?

Stream media from your computer to your xbox (i.e. movies from your computer to your xbox so you can watch them on your TV)

I don't do it through windows media center. I just allow sharing on my computer, press the middle xbox button on the controller and go to "video marketplace" and it picks up the media files from my computer. Much easier than connecting stupid windows media center.

Ok so what all is needed to do this and what is the process for streaming? What file type would my movies need to be stored as on the PC? Do you have to mount them on a virtual drive or can it stream iso files?

Would you be best running cat6e between the xbox 360 and the pc and putting them both on a gigabit switch; assuming the xbox can support up to a gigabit connection

looks like the slim 360 only supports up to 100mbps so no gigabit switch necessary

How does it treat avi and a few other file containers when not played through media center?

Most AVI files play fine. My torrent client VUZE can convert most video files so they can be played on the xbox. If youre talking about torrents just make sure it says xvid somewhere in the description and it should play fine.
