Damn... I was hoping it wouldn't come to that. When it comes to cell phones and the roms and shit, I'm clueless.

How easy is it to root and install a better ROM? Are there 1 touch roots or loaders? I don't want to brick my phone.

Dl Watchdog from market and set the alarm threshold to 30 % so you can try to isolate if it's an app that's causing the problem.

There's a one click root, ROMS are a little more involved, but it's nothing that difficult, just putting zip files on the phones for the most part.

I don't use task killers on the recommendation of Verizon's wireless tech support and Motorola's tech support.




When it freezes I could be doing anything, trying to open an app (never the same one when it freezes), opening up a menu, unlocking my screen, etc. And it'll sit there for 10-15 min till I pull the battery.

That's funny cus when I got my Droid Verizon recommended it to save battery life. Aside to set it so when screen blacks out it kills running apps

The bloatware could be causing some kind of problem, but I doubt that's what's causing your main problem otherwise everyone who has one that isn't rooted/flashed would be complaining of it. Sounds like a hardware issue, unfortunately, but just to be safe I'd try to root it, back it up, then flash a new rom to see if it fixes the problem, then you can sideload all your apps in from the SD card to see if it still runs smoothly.

Do not use task killers on Android. They will cause you problems. As for random freezes, you need to check background services as they will perioidically initialize. Rarely will you experience a random lock using a particular application. I would suggest disabling all your background services (like push updating, gps, etc. etc.) and run the phone for a few days while you enable each one at a time to diagnose the problem. Sometimes firmware and android updates will cause these problems. Evo's for instance have a bug where they reboot randomly when in a call switching roaming towers.

I'll give that a shot. I've actually had some random reboots, typically when I'm typing out a text or sending a text.

Unfortunately I don't. Would a battery that's bad or a battery that's going out cause some issues aside from not holding a charge for very long?
