  • So I figured out why my Fios wasn't working

Assholes building the house next door decided it was a good idea to cut my fiber.
    And drink on the job

Yeah. When I went to get the company info yesterday the crew denied cutting the wore.. I promptly showed them the cut wire in that dug up area. They quit denyin it then.

They're supposedly hard to cut through, sheathed in kevlar.

They were using digging machines, so I'm sure with as hard as the ground is right now, the line wouldn't be a problem.

No shit, we had a construction company working on one of our country clubs and they "accidentally" cut a fiber cable that runs almost 300 yards in 4 different places. Our regional technology manager said it was going to cost close to $8K to have new cable run.

And that is still cheaper than splicing it!

I had a call a few years ago up in Wichita Falls where a road crew had cut the fiber line for the 3rd time that week. I was sent to setup one of our quick deploy setups to keep our customer online, while ATT figured out what they were going to do.

Let me just say a couple things...

                      1. its easy to cut... my dad cut through one with a trenching shovel with 0 trouble
                      2. it was a $550 mistake
                      3. doesnt matter how long the cable is...its $550 mistake
                      4. if the construction people dont pay for it...the home owner is responsible as the home owner does not own the line.

mine has been cut several times in the last 2-years, and they've never charged us a penny. hell, one time i was driving a tiller across the hard, and the little arm on the back drug the ground enough to break the line...it was damn near just covered by dust. i finally dug a 2-foot hole, ran a conduit and had them pull a new line in it.

Well I spoke with the city code enforcement and building inspectors. I was pretty much told they were not coming out to check out the lot or workers. I asked if these guys had permits, the guy said I believe so. I lol'd and asked if he was assuming. Click.

call yourself lucky... the cable for my dad's house was 400' cable. They say they always charge regardless of fault. They say it cost them a lot more than $500 for the cable and install
