  • What is the weak point in my PC build?

I have a relatively good build, but my Windows benchmark is still 5.9 because of the Hard disk speed. I have two 750GB SATA 7200RPM HD in a RAID 0 config.

    My Build:
    AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
Diamond Radeon HD 6850 Graphics card
    Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H
    12288 MB of RAM @ 677MHz
    2 X 2GB Kingston
    2 X 4GB Kingston
    IN-WIN BR-665 Case
    Corsair 650TX PSU
    Corsair H60 CPU Cooler
    Win7 64bit

    I also ran a PCmark7 test here. http://3dmark.com/pcm7/139740

I think I need to go to a SSD, but what do you guys think?

There is also a 120mm fan on the side cover pulling air so the radiator can pull it out.

Are you just trying to raise your windows score? Or is there another reason?

Buy an SSD like me. My score for the whole system is 7.0 and my hard drive score is 7.7

high score = faster computer; correct?
Well I really thought it would do better fps at gaming. I play Wow and I figured everything could be maxed out with how old the game is. I have it at 8x Anti, and shadow/water/environment detail at high (Ultra is the highest) im getting about 32 fps. That isn't when Im in an instance, just sitting in Org.

I don't like something bottlenecking my computer, especially if I know what it is.

man wei is whack, even with an array capable of gigabit speeds it still rates my drives at 7.8. My m15x with its single ssd is rated at 7.6.

            High Score = Better hardware

A SSD will increase load times, boot times, and file transfer in some situation. While they are amazing at these, you will barely see any difference in gaming performance with one. I personally am waiting for the prices still to drop so I don't have to buy a 60gb hard drive to put my OS on...

You want better performance out of your computer for WoW? Double up on your video cards and overclock your cpu to 4.0ghz, then see how smooth WoW runs on Ultra.

That is the main reason I didn't buy one when I built this machine.

I plan on getting BF3, and my MB only has one PCI-E slot .

Yea sorry, forgot to look at your mobo for a extra pci slot

At any rate, you should be able to play BF3 on the setup you have now, I wouldn't worry about it.

That win 7 score isn't really anything to be honest.

LAPTOP here WIN 7 score of 7.2 being my graphics is the 7.2..i'd be willing to bet your rig will stomp my laptop lol..
As for SSD's I have a Intel X25m SSD and i love it, infact i have 3 of the SSD's in 3 different machines. BUy.com had a special for a little while. 160GB for 270.00

The X25-m wasn't the speed king for overall transfer rate, but it stomps the crap out of anything thing else for normal PC operations.. read about it.. even the newer Intel stuff is slower than the X25 on day to day stuff. Its just slower for straight file transfer (moving movies etc)

When it comes to price of SSD, everyone needs to stop being a cheap ass... i remember paying 600.00 for an upgrade from 100MB HDD to a 212MB HDD. times have changed, but the prices for computer stuff is still cheap compared to back in the day...

Hell i paid 300.00 for my first 1X cd ROM.... now you get 24X burners for 25.00 just remember you don;t need a 500GB SSD.... I have a 160GB SSD and a 500GB hybrid HHD in my laptop... works great.

All of my machines are running intels. I just rebuilt my desktop one with a X25-M. I just threw in 2 x Barracuda XT and the speed is nuts. 64m cache with 6.0 sata.

sata 6 is insane though and really raised the bar, i have 4 vertex 3's in raid 0 and its like ABSOLUTELY nothing I will ever do will stress my array.

I didnt think you could mix and match RAM like that.

                          Sweet looking rig btw

The speeds, type, brand and everything is the same, just different quantities.

I would recommend, if he hasn't already done so, to put the smaller sticks closest to the processor. You can more quickly fill and empty a 2gig stick than you can a 4gig stick.

Motherboard is your weak point. Spend a little cash and pick up a good ASUS RoG board like this one. also, make sure the speeds on your memory all match, if you aren't sure post up product #s and I'll check em out for you.
