I want an IPad, but don't know what I'd use it for...

I've been told by friends and family how awesome the IPad is, and I've played with it a little, but I'm trying hard to justify it for myself. I have a wireless netbook, that can be toyed with while watching TV, or out on the porch when it's nice, so portability at home isn't an issue. I do travel, but I always have to have my laptop with me, there's no way that I can extoll the virtues of Microsoft to a client on an IPad.

For those of you that are PC based, and have an IPad, what do you use it for?

FWIW I think that they are fun, but beyond angry birds, I dunno what I'd use it for.

I used it to play angry birds. Realized I wasn't using it and sold it.

I use mine for portal able around the house and If I go somewhere like a friends house or something. In ur case I wouldn't worry bout it

I use mine for genral web browsing, my netflix portal for instant queue movies and porn.

For work, i use it for email and note taking.

Its a decent platform, but its NOT a pc.

i use mine for an Alarm clock daily, check on Formula 1 races, and while on the road, for video and entertainment. I bought it, cause i had the money to WASTE and i WANTED it. defintely no for any practical reason..

Generally, it's great for light browsing while sitting on the couch. But with the Bank of America, USAA, AT&T, Walgreens, etc apps, it's so much quicker to grab the iPad and do some banking or order refills on prescriptions. A Windows PC or laptop take 2-3 minutes to boot up. An iPad is ready as soon as you grab it. The size and weight is great compared to a laptop. You can use it while holding it with one hand. A laptop needs a lap or a desk. I bought a netbook a year or two ago for its size and now it's collecting dust.

If you're still married to your laptop for other reasons, don't bother.

If the ipad is OFF , not in stdby, my new Asus mini book, will boot faster than the ipad... Just gotta have the right hardware... New Asus laptop with fast boot and a SSD was the same price as the ipad 64gb and boots in 20 seconds...

Either way if you need convinving to buy a ipad, then you probably don;t need it.

looking back now, i could have bought some nice stuff for my car for 700.00 and enjoyed it more...But thats just me.

I am a long time windows user, but what I use my netbook for is exactly the same, though it's plugged into a full size keyboard and monitor when at home. The platform isn't an issue, just useability.

The size and touch screen are what intrigue me. I've got a 9" (quote that) netbook, but the ipad is slightly bigger, and lighter. Boot time isn't an issue, because I am always plugged in, and "hibernate" when traveling. Ergonomically, the ipad is better for various reasons on the couch, but I do have something that does the same.

Speaking of the couch, is there something on either platform that will allow me to use my TV as a monitor wireless? Using either as just a keyboard would be great.

I'm by no means married to the OS, just comfortable with it. This would not be used for work, just as my netbook isn't.

I definitely don't "need" an ipad, just wondering if the use and fun factor can justify the price. I don't currently have a toy car, so the money spent would be invested, or sit in savings. FWIW I have an Xbox that sits most of the time, but it's nice to have when I do want to play with it.

I'm headed bach to the States and my wife is giving me her iphone 3 since she got upgraded to a 4.

Yep, you can do most everything that I would on an ipad, with a smaller screen.

The main difference would be showing pictures. Which is why I want a wireless link to the TV. I can throw in a USB drive, but to sit on the couch and do the same thing would be cool.

Like i have told everyone else i met that has a Iphone or Itouch....

if you have one of those 2 items, then buying a Ipad is a waste.. only thing nice is battry life and screen size, othewise, all 3 have the sam capabilites damn near.

The iPad screen is far easier to surf with than the iPhone. I used to surf a lot on my iPhone till I got an iPad.

Big A: There's a $99 device at the Apple store called Apple TV. It's a wireless interface to any iOS device with an HDMI cable to your TV. You can't use the TV like a monitor but certain apps can. Netflix, YouTube and several others will play full screen on the TV. I've been ripping DVD movies on my PC, sync'ing them to the iPad, then watching it on my TV. No DVD player needed. If you want to use the TV as a monitor, the only option at this time is a direct iPad to TV HDMI cable.
