  • How do I get out of my ISP's contract?

So I have a huge issue with my current ISP Mediacom. I am here on base in Pensacola and they are the only show in town other than doing the DSL/Satellite combo which I do not wanna tie myself down to, but right now that seems like the better option.

Basically their prices are outrageous: $122/mo for 12/1 internet and HD DVR with multi-room.

For the past 2 months I have been having intermittent speed issues where I would have huge lag problems and I couldn't even watch a SD YouTube video without several minutes of buffering.

I called them with my issue and they informed me it was a "utilization problem" and that there were simply too many people on my node and it would take several months to resolve. Seriously? Ok so I told them I was paying for 12/1 and I refuse to pay the same amount for less than one tenth of that speed. She basically told me to shove it since I was on a contract. Fuck, wow... so are there any avenues of getting out of this crap? I literally cant even load Pandora, Weather.com's radar or anything... my Verizon 3G phone is getting better download speeds! What do I do?

my old ISP was like that "utilization problems". Grande Communications. I had to call them so much i memorized the dial-in prompts. Eventually i got told the problem was torrents and small-business owners running/hosting high traffic and just completely hogging the bandwidth. While it sucks to get told you are an "abuser" user, it REALLY sucks when your ISP is too limp-wristed to shut off the connections of the REAL abusers.

They had all 500+ units on my apt complex on like 1 node, and since the actual wiring was owned by AT&T, there was no way that either one of them was going to make a change. I NEVER got my advertised speeds, and they always promised to make improvements year after year. Unfortunately, it was either them or Cable, and when i switched to that, it was the same situation with bandwidth.

It sucks, but you have the difference between two turds you have to choose from until you get stationed elsewhere.

ask to speak with the supervisor/ manager and explain the situation and tell them you want out of the contract since they are not abiding by it because you aren't getting the download speeds that are in your contract. if they say its because of other people using/ abusing, then say that is their problem and they need to resolve it by upgrading or not offering high speeds for so cheap.

      -or

just tell them you are getting deployed and then they have to let you out of the contract. if they want orders. scan a copy of old orders and change the location.

try to download 100 torrents at once and unrestrict your upload speed.
