The computer won't boot. It locks up on the above mentioned file. Won't boot into safe mode or any other modes either, we've burnt a cd from AVG that is essentially a Linux based anitivirus program that helps you to get to the avg files. It suggests changing the file extensions to .bak then rebooting.
I've got someone here trying that now.
Will let you know.
Thanks man.
Also, I would be tempted to get a quote on some new counter tops and I can't afford that right now. lol
(all are 25" deep except island)
wall to oven: 48" L
Oven to end: 49" L
End to sink: 50" / Sink to other end: 86"
Island: 26.5" x 38.25
Bar (top above sink): 14" wide by approx. 136" (on a curve just as sink is).
Back splash is tile and would like to keep that, I'm guessing.
The AVG CD didn't come with enough instructions to make it work, so I'm still without a laptop (which has all my important files).
This is what AVG has suggested, but I just can't make it happen.

How to disable AVG when the operating system cannot be started properly
If you suspect that an AVG component is preventing your computer from starting properly, follow the steps below to verify the situation.
1. Use AVG Rescue CD to boot your computer.
2. When the AVG Rescue CD is launched, select the Utilities -> File Manager menu item.
3. Navigate to the mounted system drive. This will be /mnt/sda1/ in most cases.
4. Within this drive, navigate to the /Windows/system32/drivers/ folder.
- Rename (using the F6 key) all files starting with avg (e.g. avgldx86.sys, avgtdix.sys, etc.) to back them up. You can change their extension from .sys to .bak, for example.
5. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and reboot the system (make sure to remove the AVG Rescue CD from your optical drive before doing so).
- Your system will boot without AVG being involved in the process.
Thoughts/Suggestions?
This is on my Toshiba Satellite lap top and it has all my files that I need ASAP!
Pull the drive, connect it to a USB dock/adapter and copy your important files to a different system.
Wipe the laptop and reload.
FIXED.
Thank you sir, for the info.
Well, as it turns out, my data was lost (not sure how) but my only options now are to pay a data recovery agent to retrieve my files.
Geek Squad quoted $250 +. I may or may not go this route, depending on what the final cost would be. My biggest concerns are my job search related files and my pictures (I had some wedding and cruise pix not saved on it). I also hate losing all my programs and associated files, but...
If anyone can suggest a competent data recovery service, I would greatly appreciate it (and a beer could be had).
Also thanks to Jeff and Bryan (TxRedneck) for offers and help!
After being told by 3 computer "professionals" (loosely termed), including Worst Buy's Freak Squad, that all my data was missing or corrupt, Bryan was able to get in, access all data including programs, and recover it completely.
Everything's back to normal now (actually a little quicker after he did some tweaking).
Plus the price was very reasonable.
All he asked for was one hour to play some card games with my wife.
I said "deal"! Sounds fair to me.
