First off I don't really know shit about tablets. I haven't ever really delved into the whole tablet trend and I need something portable enough to take to class and pull up documents and presentations from my computer at home. Have tabs gotten to the point yet where they're viable for class and business applications and not just a novelty?

What are you looking to do with it? As far as taking notes on it, I would say that a tablet (unless you get the transformer) is not the thing to get. For browsing the web, getting email, playing movies, mp3's etc. the Tablet is perfect. The lack of mouse and keyboard will make it difficult to use for more than that..

just bought a 10" notebook... love it!
tablets are still a gimmick to me. especially for actual work/school settings

But really right now I would still go Laptop/netbook for work/school. I've got my Asus on the way, but it's just going to be for fun, unless I find some way to make it handle some of my workload..

With the dock attached it folds up and is the same size as a netbook(probably a little thinner).
The ASUS tablet is $399 and the keyboard is $150. But you can pick up BT keyboards cheaper if need be. And yes I know you can get a full laptop/netbook for the same or less money.
There were some Acer 10.1" netbooks(W7, 160GB) on clearance at my local Target last week for $167. They are all gone now, but other stores may still have some. Or like th OP said, you can buy a new regular laptop and get a free XBOX with it now.
I'm keeping my Acer netbook for work..

71 is spot on. That's the best tablet out right now. Shit-ton faster than the I-pad, and the dock for it is reasonably priced. G4 gave it 5 out of 5 stars and from what I remember, had nothing bad to say about it. Plus, even with a dock I think it's cheaper than an I-pad."Any dog under 50lbs is a cat and cats are pointless." - Ron Swanson

For any serious business I feel a laptop is still the answer. Full fledged OS that is well supported, keyboard built in, more storage, more app support for things you may need.
If it is one OR the OTHER - laptop.Originally posted by MR EDDU defend him who use's racial slurs like hes drinking water.
