Does anyone know how to use it as a wifi only device without activation?

Try going to menu>settings>wireless and networks>turn air plane mode on then make sure wireless is enabled and see what happens.

All it says is error in the wifi tab when you try to turn it on

Have you used it before at your house? Is this a all of the sudden problem?

heres how to do a factory reset.

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Select Privacy.

3. Choose Factory data reset.

No dice. Apparently the file the guy who had it before me, has a bad driver kernel or some crap he said. Supposed to meet him at lunch tomorrow for him to fix it

Well I met the guy at lunch and he re flashed the kernel for the wifi and I am all in business now!
