I should be able to come up with a target time closer to race time. Right now, I'm just happy with anything under 30min.

Yes I'll sign up for 5/14. I'll sign up next week. I'll be jogging a slow 10k. I don't want to get burned out or hurt two weeks before my big race but runs are fun with all those people.

A 30 min 5k isn't easy. You've set your goal pretty high right off the bat.

I did run my fastest mile since boot camp tonight, but I am still slow. It was right after a 60 min bike ride though.

I should be respectably quick in another year.

I'd probably die mid race. I'm looking for an October to February half to try.

Oh, I won't touch 30min on the 5/14 run, but seems like a good goal for the 6/4 run. I believe you have to finish the first 5K in under 30min to run the full 10K. I also have about 50lbs to loose, so a lighter me should run easier. We'll see. I may just get some of those rolly shoes and hang on to Chris's T-shirt tail! Haha!

You don't need to run 30 min in a 5K to do a 10K. I have another 40 to lose myself. I'll probably lose 20 of them this summer at the rate I'm running now.

You can 4 seconds per mile per pound lost according to running nerds. That's why all the hard core runners make anorexic people look like fatties.

In that particular 10K you have to finish the first 5k in under 30...I believe that's what he's referring to.

That's correct. It has something to do with the traffic agreement, laws, what not. If you don't make the first 5K in under 30min, they won't let you continue on for the full 10K.

Well then I guess I'm doing the 5K that day. I'm not going to run to beat 30 minutes.

I can't imagine why they would need to do that. Cooper has one long as track and trail complex up there.

Where do you see that requirement? I didn't see it on the active.com registration page or the event organizer's website.

Okay I see it now. That is for the firefly run on 6/4. It has the time cutoff of 30min at 5K.

No worries, I'll be watching my son race 6/4 and I'll be resting for my race on 6/5.

I can go jog the 10K in McKinney and I'll be there.

I'll be shooting for a 1:10 or so depending on how I feel at mile 3. I'll be jogging slow 12-13 minutes miles until mile 3. My goal for June 5th is to be able to hold 12 minute miles after a swim and bike ride.

I did a lowly 10:24 after a 1 hour bike ride today with 3 10 minute intervals. The indoor bike said 16 miles, but I've found they aren't accurate. The other indoor bike where I do my training would've read 14 miles or so. I hate that bike. My real bikes are faster unless I'm on my hybrid which is slower.

I really wanted to do a 10K adventure run in the woods near Houston last month but my wife had other plans . That sounded like a lot of fun.

2 miles in 24min at 5mph this morning on the treadmill and it felt great! I only stoped so I wouldn't be late to work.

Last night I ran with my wife. She jumped on the Vibram train with me. We did week 1 of the couch to 5K last night for 2.5miles and it was way too easy for her. She said it's never been fun to run for her, but she loved this! She wants to jump ahead and do 2min run 1min walk cycles. I don't know what week that is, but she should be ready to rip out 3.1 in June with me!

Is it because I already have a 550hp sports car that my midlife has turned into running, eaching Chia seeds and switching to deodorant that doesn't contain Aluminum??? LOL

Sadly the answer to your last question is yes.

Last weekend at the ft worth zoo 5k/10k my wife son and I went. Ewe met three other couples there with their kids too. My son, 11, complained to my wife about everyone being there while I was jogging 10k. She told him this is what old people do for fun. We pay to get up at 5am, go meet our friends, run and then eat brunch together. Get used to it.

They ran the 5k while I waited. Only Amy and I did the 10k and she is way faster than I am for at least one more year.

LOL! You know...I think I can live with that. I had a buddy in HS who's dad could have passed for his grandpa and for the longest time, I thought he was! I don't want to be that Dad! My son is 3 and my daughter is 6 and I want to be shooting hoops and throwing the football around with my grand kids!
