  • resistance bands..

So as some of you know I've gotten on the workout kick. While I'm offshore, its great because I've got all the exercise equipment I could want. However, at home space is at a premium, especially until we manage to get a garage/shop built. I've got the p90x and insanity workouts on my laptop, and I noticed on the p90x that they have using resistance bands as an option instead of free weights and pullup bars. I've been looking at this set.

Because they seem to have really good reviews, and a wide variety in weight tension up to 404lbs. I know its not going to be as good as a real gym, but I guess my question is, could i maintain a good workout/pump with these bands while i'm at home on my days off? (for 2 weeks)

i have used the bands during p90x but didn't really like them. you can make due with them though since its just a temporary solution. i just don't like the resistance change as i am lifting. i'm sure it works great for beginners, but i prefer weights with the same resistance throughout the whole ROM.

example, curls. at the beginning of the rep it feels too light down low which isn't good because then you aren't really hitting that part of the bicep, but as you raise it it becomes tighter increasing resistance. so it really only gets to the correct resistance when it gets to the top of the rep.

i guess you could loop it and get the resistance you want and do the bottom half ROM curls like you would do in a set of 21's then readjust the loop and then to the top half. same goes for other
    exercises.

plus i always have an uneasy feeling when i am really putting a lot of tension on the bands; like its going to snap or the handle is going to pop off and smack the shit out of me, or cause some muscle/ tendon injury if it snaps and i am pushing/ pulling really hard.

the bands i have were given to me, but if you are doing p90x you really only need a few different weights and a pullup bar, so just a few different dumbbells is the route i would go.

thats the thing.. I'm not really necessarily doing P90x. I'm just wondering if these bands would be a viable alternative to a cable workout station or free weights. It'd cost me a hell of a lot more for a collection of dumbbells and a pull up station, or a workout station. I can see how it'd be scary, especially with the heavier tensioned bands. lol. I've read quite a bit of stuff on bodybuilding.com, most of the bros are like.. "lets see you work out in a gym with bands, faggot" but some said it could be a viable alternative for people with limited free space, like me. Once we get the shop built then I'll have room for a nice weight room.

like i said it not the most "ideal" way to workout, but in a pinch for a temporary solution its better than nothing. ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
