Speedplays were always easier for me to get into than clips. Anything you can put on your bike that's shimano 105's or better will benefit you.

Yea man, they're easy. I did a triathlon in May. I borrowed my buddies bike, which had clipless pedals (clipless = the pedals you clip into, I know, confusing).
I had the hang of it in about 30 minutes. I fell over twice, the first two days, but after that it was fine. I put about 200 miles on the bike with only 2 low speed falls. Low speed like .5 mph.

You don't have to go crazy and buy all this shit right off the bat. I've literally only bought the bike, and $7 worth of bar tape, bringing my cycling total to $87. I've ridden 195 miles on this used ass 90's Raleigh. You don't have to rush out and my padded shorts, gloves, and $200 worth of gear to get started.

I probably wont upgrade this bike much. If I can get into a routine and start riding regularly, I plan to upgrade next year

Went to the bike shop yesterday and got fitted for a bike and then went on the hunt. Today I picked up a bike, finally, it's a Strada Falcon, with a 531 Reynolds steel frame. Rides pretty good and I think it's a pretty good fit for me. Cheap enough to where I can be happy with just riding it and enjoying it the most I can.

Got home and took it on a little longer test ride and cranked out 5 miles like it was nothing. Completely different from that mountain bike the other day. I think I'm going to enjoy this.

Are those the ones you slide your feet into that are attached to your pedals? If so they were driving me crazy tonight as my new bike has them.

Yeah I don't plan to spend a lot at first just ride and enjoy it and pick up things as I go and get more into riding.

I am going saturday to get my bike adjusted. I wish I had pedals and shoes to throw in the mix, but thats not going to happen this go round. I am not sure what originally came on this bike. The components are Shimano Tiagra

Got my bike adjusted today, felt a world better on the test ride. I also decided to get myself a birthday present. Since I am not a DFWm baller, I just had them add a computer so I can keep an eye on speed, cadence, and distance. Maybe a new bike for my 31st birthday.
I might have gotten myself a red light ticket as well. Traffic was moving slow and I got caught in an intersection in Frisco...

I started riding about 2 months ago and am in the North Frisco/McKinney area if you want to ride sometime. I travel for work a lot and also coach baseball when I'm home, but I try to get out on the weekends as often as possible. Shoot me a PM if you're in that area and want to ride sometime. I'm not blazing any high speeds now, but I enjoy just being out and riding -- sometimes fast and sometimes just a long, cruise type ride.

We should do a group ride one Saturday if there are enough people on here that want to ride.

I am in Greenville, so that isn't too far out of the way. Maybe a monthly GTG?

I have yet to really push myself. I did 4 miles Saturday morning, a lot of which was uphill.

What goes up, must come down. You came down the equal amount you went up, assuming you went "out and back". ;-)

True! Though it was much more uphill than I have pedalled to date!

Is anyone else logging their rides with strava?

I'm not logging mine online, but I use an app on my phone called GPS Kit. I did just buy a Garmin watch though so I don't have to keep my phone out to see my speed and such.

Thats why I bought the cateye this weekend. I can keep my phone in the bag under the seat so I can track my rides. The cateye keeps my speed, cadence, time, and distance right in front of me. I felt like I pushed a little harder tonight trying to keep my cadence in the 75-85 range.

I'd be game, I'm not very fast or have a lot of endurance built up, but I'd chase behind you guys.

I use map my ride on my phone, but I keep it in my pocket so it's hard to keep an eye on my speed and time.

My endurance is pretty bad. I would still like to ride the cotton patch challenge in September. The short course is 21 miles. Not sure if I will be able to pull it off or not being a month and a half away
