  • Where is the best place to shop for weights/equip.?

Outside of an auction and Craigslist, where is the best place to go and look/demo some weight equipment?

Getting back into shape and our apt gym has between jack and shit for decent weight training equipment...

I would agree. If you're just looking for access to gym equipment, it's hard to beat $30/month at chain gyms. Yeah, you might get fucked into waiting for some things, but that could also give you a chance to get creative and vary your workout.

If you must buy, why buy new? It's a rip off.

Buying equipment is a rip off. I pay $19 a month for my gym membership, it would take A LLLOOOONNNGG time to pay off gym equipment at that

It depends on what kind of equipment you're looking for. You can get a full Olympic (300#) weight set and a bench for around $300. Throw in around $100 for adjustable dumbbells and maybe a pullup/dip station for $200. You could pay it off in about 2 years. The funny thing about gym memberships is that they last about 3-6 months on average. The funnier thing is that tracking member usage, the gym is only used 9-12 times in the first month and maybe a few times per month before people quit.

Wife and I paid for 3 year memberships in full. I started the first 2 weeks with 3 days/week. Now going 4-5 days/week. Every time I think about not going, I remember how much money we spent on memberships. Plus I feel so much better since i've been going. I sleep better, have more energy, don't fatigue near as easy etc... and I actually enjoy lifting weights. Forgot how much I enjoyed it since it's been 5 years since I did any serious workouts/lifting. I've lost 14 lbs and 4 inches in my waste, still have another 16 lbs to go to get down to 200lbs where I want to be. Then it's all about leaning out and building mass.

Specifically, what kind of equipment are you looking for?

Do you want machines? All-in-one stuff? Rack/bar/plates?

Not looking any more, joined a gym for now. Eventually want to get somthing like a smith machine, some dumbells, Olympic straight and curl bars and weight plates, adjustable bench (flat, incline, decline, seated for shoulder press), curl bench.

Will probably be years down the road when I have a house and designated space for a workout room/area.
