  • Punching bag, ceiling hook or stand?

I'm thinking of getting a punching bag, but those damn stands are just so big and bulky I'm not sure if I want one in the room. has anyone ever used a big hook into the 2x6 joist of the ceiling and hung one up? Is that a bad idea? When it's time to move, I'll just unscrew it and fill the hole with putty and paint it, not worried about that. Just would a big screw in type hook be enough of an anchor? I'm not gonna go all bat shit crazy and kick it all over making it swing wildly, just mostly cardio punching and shit like that.

Anyone have one, how is your mounted? 75 lb bag is probably the size I need, nothing too heavy.

You can buy mounting kits for them. They attach at two points and use 4 screws. I wouldnt trust it with just a hook.

I haven't seen one like that for a heavy bag, just a speed bag. This is the stand I was thinking of, just so bulky!

They do make a speed bag attachment for this type also, but I'm not interested in a speed bag.

I guess something like this with longer screws coudl work too!

Do you have it mounted in a room inside your house with that? I guess some longer lag bolts could go dep enough with the drywall in between the mount and board.

Mounted in my garage. It was a few years ago. It's held up with no issues.

              Cool, thanks!

Now the wife doesn't want to "ruin the ceiling"... I keep telling her it can be patched very easily! I'd rather spend $12 instead of $100 for the stand!
