Don't start too big otherwise you'll hurt yourself and get discouraged.

I got sick sunday and haven't felt like going and haven't been to the gym all week. Was going to go yesterday but changed my mind. But, i thought maybe a week off might be a good thing since i've been at it steady since the end of September. I'll get back balls to the wall Monday morning, i paid for a year up front, there is no not going for me lol

Just put yourself in the mindset and follow through with it. I started going with a buddy and saw how much of a trainwreck I was and used that as motivation. If I skip a day, I feel like I cheated myself and get really down. I never thought I would turn into the fitness type, but everyday I'm able to see/feel a difference. Best advice is work out with a few buddies and push each other. I work out with some monsters and I'm the weakest by every aspect, but it pushes me to do more.

Being sick is a valid reason to stay home, not an excuse. Skipping a whole week is just plain lazy though.

            Thank you all, especially Aaron.

I am going after work this evening. I won't forget my water bottle, I'm not hungover and screw waiting on Monday.

I've only used an elliptical once, and didn't much care for the movement of it --too long of a stride. The ellipticals that so not have the things for the arms seem like that have a shorter stride to them, so perhaps I'll give one of those a try.

I still need to incorporate weights in, but I'll worry about that once I have some dedication to a regular routine. For that, I'll probably ask some of you all for help with and to sit in with you, if someone wouldn't mind being a tutor to a young padawan.

            Thanks again.

Weather and the local wild life were my excuses. Been here long enough to know all the animals and they know me. Unless there is ice, I'm going to run rain or shine now. Just maybe short run due to not wanting to kill my iphone/music and not having music due to that.

Some ellipticals you can adjust the stride on FYI.

Yep, and I can't stand the ones that incorporate arm motion. It'll get your heart rate up quicker, but more difficult to coordinate.

Again, don't go in there trying to win a marathon this afternoon, you'll burn out with a quickness. Just like strength, stamina takes time to build up. Slow and steady is the key for now, even just a walking pace is good for getting into the habit of going.

Sometimes I drive around the parking lot a few times, then leave.

Don't think I've ever done that. It's pulling into the driveway that's the hard part. Once I'm there, it's easy.

Kettlebells man, kettlebells all the way! You can do them at home, 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week to start. I do a live on line class every Saturday morning (missed 3 since June when they started), 60 minutes of cardio and weight (kettlebells again) training. I've lost the weight I wanted, most of my belly, and went from a 36 to a 32 waist jean size, in 4 months.

If you ever wanna give it a try, I've got KB's from 5 to 25 lbs (up by 5 lbs each) and a 35 & 45 lb'er. I've actually stuck with doing this too, it is fun, yet effective! You're welcome to come over and give it a try one day.

Kettlebells are great but with his knees being fucked up on top of his weight without proper instruction the could really fuck him up.

Geoff, I'm assuming you still have the same membership I got you a while back. My advice is that if you can't find a consistent workout buddy that's knowledgable invest in a trainer at least for a bit. Some 24 hour trainers also do classes so if money is an issue do a few sessions with one that does body pump and/or cycling. They'll work those classes into your routine and it won't cost any extra. I've worked alongside some trainers that are all about getting paid and some that really want to help. The ones that do classes I've seen are legit badasses that just want to help people.

Competition is my biggest motivator. My best friend is 6 years older than me and we grew up together. By the time I hit 15 and was working out, he was 21 and had a major edge on me, but I am extremely competitive. Always pushed me to go the extra mile and by the time I was 18 or 19, I was the stronger one.

I actually have been starting to go -- MWF last week and plan on doing the same this week. Slowly, but surely, I guess. Hoping to get up to 5 days a week within the month. It's still quite a chore to turn into that parking lot though.
