  • Elliptical purchase advice

I've been missing the elliptical at my apartment gym since buying my house a few months ago and have definitely gained a few pounds in the interim. I'm sure the holidays did not help. Looking to purchase one, and just seeing if there are any great brands or brands to steer clear of that you guys have experience with. Budget.. $400ish?

Try to find one with a lot of horizontal planes so it will be easier to hang clothes on it.

lol, I'll actually use it. It's one of the few exercises I don't mind. Besides, I made a deal with myself that once I get to my target weight, I'm buying a big ol saltwater hot tub.

I agree. A used one selling for 400ish on CL should be for one that was selling for 600+ new which will tend to be the better models, IMO.

I can't really explain the part I am talking about without rambling like a retard but don't get one with the "tracks" like this:

Get one that is connected like this:

On the home models example 1 once they get worn they start to get loose and the wheels will fall off the tracks.

Aside from that everyone's stride is a bit different so find something that feels comfortable.

I've got one I was about to list on CL if you're still looking. I was going to ask 150$ for it, has a little use and pretty dusty http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gold-s-Gym...ptical/7789777

Git 'er dun Eric! I haven't weighed, but I've dropped 2 pants sizes in the last 2 months. Clean up your diet as best you can, and make this a valid investment. Trust me, it doesn't get any easier as we get older.

Save your money and get a good pair of running shoes. Seriously, a light jog outside is a lot better than an elliptical.

Unfortunately this will be the third time I've had to drop a massive amount of weight, but on the bright side I know I can do it. Down 8 pounds and it hasn't even been a week(and no crash dieting or anything).

Have a good pair of running shoes, but I have to do low impact workouts due to my back. Plus I prefer the privacy of my home any way.

Consider it a good thing, experience makes it a little easier to drop weight, especially with an aging and slowing metabolism.

I hear ya on privacy, but I did cardio during peak gym hours last night for the first time in a while, and I must say thank God for spandex.
