  • 90 day Paleo Challenge (body stats)

Today is day 1 of 90 days Paleo Challenge for my gym. I have a pretty clean diet now so it's not to much of a change minus the no dairy thing. I love milk, milk loves me so that will be tough. Just so happens I'll be going to Cabo in 10 days after the challenge is up so that makes it even easier mentally.

Today was the official weigh in/ measure day.

    My results (starting)
    Height 6 ft
    Age 32

    Body Weight 193 pounds
    Muscle Mass 41.6 percent
    Body Fat 20.01 percent
    Hydration 58 percent
    Bone Mass 4.5

I wanna try and be at 15% body fat and be at 47% muscle mass. I don't know how feasible or realistic of a goal that is for 90 days but that's my goal. Feel free to comment and let me know. Wish me luck!

What crossfit are you a part of again? Im with 817 and they also started one. You will definitely notice a difference and fast. As far as dairy I found that almond milk (origional unsweetened) was good. I still drink it now.

How did you/are you conducting your stats?

Bioelectrical impedance analysis, hydrodensitometry, Bod Pod, or DEXA?

P.S. - Make sure and take pictures so that you can see for yourself the progression as you go along.

What ever you call the scale that sends electric pulses through your body. My wife is going to get a tape measure to measure me and the calipers as well. Both scales the gym has and the one I have at home are .5 with in each other.

My gym I attend to is Crossfit South Forney, it's a decent size gym with about 80 active members. I wanna say it's right at a year old maybe. I've been there since mid May and watched it grow tremendously. We're in about a 5,500 square ft building.

            Bioelectrical impedance analysis, gotcha.
Not very accurate, but it will help you track yourself.
Do not take a shower beforehand, those scales are very sensitive to hydration.

Measuring tape and calipers will really help you track changes as well.
            I'm very big on paleo.
            Good luck!!

Thanks Justin, I am switching my protein intake to Syntha-6. What's your input on that stuff? I've used muscle milk for a while and used Muscle Pharm the last cycle, now this. This is my first time to try this. I really don't want to lose weight, just kill the body fat. I weighed this morning and showed more weight loss. I am sure it's water weight, tough workout last night.

Does anyone know the bone mass calculation that qualifies as "Big boned"?

                Good luck bud!

Lots of people love Syntha 6, but me personally...I take a lot of isolate proteins, not blends.
Whenever it comes to proteins, I would stick with what TASTES best.
Protein drinks should be a treat, not a chug thing, that way you will look forward to them and drink them regularly with ease.

The syntha 6 is about 200 calories per serving, of which contains 23 grams of protein.
Do the math... 23 x 4 = 92 calories from protein, the rest of the calories are fats and fillers, etc.
To me, 108 calories really isn't anything to worry about, considering I am taking in about 7,000 right now.
To another taking in much less, it could be.

Justin, what do you suggest for a good flavored isolate?

Just an FYI, protein powders are NOT paleo. Most, if not all contain dairy and soy.

I personally can't really stand much vanilla proteins, so I try to stick with chocolate as a base.
As in chocolate flavored, chocolate carmel flavored, chocolate mint, chocolate peanut butter, etc...

                        I like Dymatize ISO 100.

Very true, plus almost all contain artificial flavoring.

The one I'm taking says its 16.9 ounces and 40g of protein, 280 total calories, 50 from fat. I do see it contains milk so I guess that throws the whole Paleo out the window. Crap

The people that I know that do fairly strict paleo typically replace their post workout protein shakes with some jerky and nuts that way they can just put it in a small ziploc bag in their workout bag. Not sure what kind of grocery stores you have around you but the HEB Plus down here has a "health" aisle where they have all kinds of different stuff you can make your own trail mix with. I ended up with about 2lbs of almonds, pecans, and brazil nuts for about $10. For snacking on, that has lasted me a couple of weeks.
