Trails and road. Light riding. Nothing extreme.
This is just my opinion but take it for what its worth. Get you something in the 3-500 range and if you get hooked upgrade to a better bike.

You will also find more 26'' tire bikes for sale on craigslist too.

I searched craigslist for two months trying to find bikes for my wife and I and after several no calls, people not pulling their ads, showing up to look at junk, I got fed up and bought new. Performance Bike in Fort Worth had the best deals and were very helpful. They are also blowing out all of their inventory for Christmas. I ended up with a Schwinn Searcher which is probably more bike than I"ll ever need and with the 90 day price protection, I just went back on Saturday to get some more money back. So, my $419 bike has gone down to a $299 bike. Find what you want and then look up the price online, it may be listed cheaper. They still had my bike listed on sale for $349 in the store, but it was $299 online.

I couldnt find a 29er for that prices range or one with a rockshox on it. I figure this one will do for now and If I stick with riding Ill upgrade. This one would make a good loaner bike for when people want to go out and ride with me,

Bingo. ride it for awhile, and if you get into it upgrade. The fork will be the biggest hold up on that bike, but again if you decide you want to get more into it you will buy a whole new bike anyways.
