  • Need help with a diet plan!

As the title states, I need help coming up with a healthy diet plan. Here's the problem, I'm an OTR driver and often have to rely on truck stops. The big names (Pilot, Loves, even TA) have started offering some fresh fruit and veggies, but it's inconsistent and I'm tired of bananas and Subway. I don't have a fridge and I've tried bringing healthy snacks in a cooler with mixed results.

So, my question is if you had to develop a meal plan around truck stops and fast food establishments....what would it look like?

Stuff maybe you can bring with you:

Almonds, peanuts, pecans, walnuts (no sugar on them). Protein powder you can mix in with milk or water. Beef jerky. Fruits, vegetables.

    When you eat fast food:

Try to stick to stuff that's got more meat than bread

Avoid the carbs at dinner time and refined grains as much as you can.

        Thought I'd update this:

Down 45 pounds as of this morning. Started at 243 lbs. It's been 65 days since I started my lifestyle changes. It's been pretty easy. Here is what has worked for me.

        1. I downloaded the myfitnesspal app and I use it religiously. It tracks everything and helps keep me accountable. I've yet to run into a food that wasn't listed.

        2. NO BURGERS/FRIES and NO SODA. I found that a toasted black forest sub on flat bread with tomatoes and brown mustard from Subway is a suitable taste replacement for a hamburger. I've also found healthier replacements for other foods I love. A "no sugar added" Carnation shake and a multivitamin is now my breakfast each day. Bananas, granola bars, and protien meal bars are staples now.

        3. Water, water, water.

        4. Exercise!! Anywhere, anytime I can. I have a weighted jump rope that travels with me everywhere. 6 sets of 50, with 100' sprints between sets takes about 10 minutes. 20 lb barbells for upper body workouts and push ups.

My goal is to drop to 180 (which I should hit at my 90 day mark) and then continue to tone/build muscle from there.

I've lost 52 lbs now. It's slowing a bit, but that was expected. I've added whey protien to my schedule and I'm pushing harder in my workouts. I'm definitely seeing the results.

The catalyst for all of this came on 8/14 when I essentially failed my DOT physical due to high blood pressure. It was 172/102. They gave me a 3 month card and told me to see a doctor about meds. I knew the underlying reason and set out to fix it. I went back on Friday and passed with flying colors with 124/76.

            Fuck meds....get healthy.

that's awesome man! I have a buddy that dropped 100 lbs for the same reason...his dr. wanted to put him on some serious meds for issues that was basically weight induced. I don't remember which one's but it was enough for him to say enough was enough.

Congrats diablo, I've shed 70 lbs of lard myself since March by pretty much just limiting carbs. Good thing that most items are labeled now with their sugar, carb, etc content.

Being aware of what you're eating is key. Sodium is what I've really focused on....and keep my calories in check. Congrats on your success as well.
