Generalize much? I like cheap rigid SS bikes, but trash that wheelset once and tell me what a, decent one costs.

I honestly wouldnt put much thought into it. Anything you buy you'll figure out some thing different in 6 months 29 vs 26, geared vs Ss, hardtail vs squishy, etc) and wan t to change.

Ive steered a few people into decent hardtail 29ers. (if you didn't BMX or motocross earlier in life, then I'd go 29er. Additionally, if you're tall I'd DEFINITELY go 29er). Most of them have stuck with it.

Very few if any are actually happy with their entry level hardtail 26" bikes.

I rode bmx and dirtbikes back in my day. I sold my 26" hardtail in within a year of riding and bought a 29" hardtail. It's all riding style and preference you won't know until you get out there and do it. Try and round up a few people with different setups and just go try them out. I have twin speshy 29er hardtails (21" frames) if you are serious about riding.

I recommend a locking front suspension fork for anyone who plans to ride on any flat surfaces.

I legpress 800~ and weigh 250lbs, I havent busted this one yet. Good enough for me for now I think.

A multi speed setup to hold my power costs a ton.

                L----O----L.

I agree that geared bikes are a PITA for a big guy, but with a bit of finesse and proper gear selection it can be minimized. Shimano's SLX group is the best strength for the buck group, as strong as XT at half of the price.

I dont have a fucking idea what i do on a legpress, weigh under 200 and don't ever have a problem because i know what fucking gear to be in before hitting a climb.

If you are at a stoplight and start off in 3rd gear, it doesnt matter how much "powah" you have - you're an idiot because you cant drive.

not sure what this has to do with anything, but as long as we are flexing nuts, i do that at 195.

                    god bless.

I fucking love my Camber 29'er. I don't regret that purchase at all. It was easier than getting Geor to deepthroat me.

I just bought a Genesis 29er from wally world. I haven't ridden in a LONG time so I kinda want to open back up with a cheaper bike I wouldn't feel bad about tearing up. It actually got some pretty good reviews and rides really good IMO. Plus my company gives me 200$ allowance to buy "exercise" equipment and this bike was 199$. I like it for what it is.

You could have picked up an old school Specialized, Trek or Cannondale bike that would have quality parts and wouldn't spontaneously explode on the trail. I see them all the time for $200.
