I dislike working for a living, but I still do it.

My wife gets on my ass about this, but it's true. It's a priority for me, especially as I got older. When you start picking hotels based on their cardio equipment, you know you have a problem.

haha...I did that down in San Antonio whenever we stayed at the Omni Hotel and Mokara Spa.
Except mine was for machines and weights...even though we were supposed to be on vacation!

Yessir. Good old calisthenics will whip your ass. My old football coach was all about 6" leg lifts and rocket-jumps until sunset. Of course we also ran till we puked and pumped free weights until we couldn't lift our arms.

I don't know if you're refering to the jumping jacks thing or the body pump suggestion. Body pump is an hour long class that uses "light" weights. It's about an hour long. It is fucking legit. Beachbody inc just now decided to come out with a body pump product but it's been around for a while. Basically you do a shitload of reps with light weight. I think within an hour you do around 600 reps and it's everything from squats/lunges, to curls. Attacks the whole body. I always tell people that are joining the gym that don't want personal training, that if they do body pump and spin class 3 times a week each that they'll see amazing results.

Plus, for somebody that doesn't know a whole lot about weight lifting, it will give them an idea for lifts that they can do on their own if they wanna go heavier for more bulk.

More about the jumping jacks. My point is that tons of programs work (simple calesthenics) if people will just DO IT.

Other than that, I suggest sticking with basics and if doing free weights get a spot at a minimum until you're comfortable with the weight you can do. And try to mix in intense cardio...keeping a constant pace is for the birds.

                            For chest:

Bench press, flat press of a machine will work.

Dumbell incline, start light until you find your optimum resistance.

                            Cable Flyes

                            misc...

                            Legs:

                            Leg Press

                            Quad Extensions

                            Hamstring Curls

                            Calve extensions

                            Bis/Tris:

Flat bar curl (inner and outer grips)

                            Supinating Dumbell Curl

                            Hammer Curl

                            21s with an Easy bar

                            Skull crushes

                            Overhead Cable extension

                            V-Bar push down

                            Cable extensions

                            Back:

Lat Pull downs (several machine options)

                            Rows

various machines (I don't know the name of back machines well)

lower back exercise (roman chair or machine)

                            Shoulders:

                            lateral raises

                            dumbell press

                            reverse flyes

                            shrugs

                            bent over rows

                            Abs:

                            whatever
