  • Shoulder injury....by doing nothing basically :(

A couple of months ago, I was the passenger on a 4 wheeler. there is a big metal basket on the back so while we were riding, I had my right arm propped up, gripping the basket using it to stabilize myself while riding over a lot of rocks and bumps. That same evening, It seems I had a pinched nerve. I kinda figured that riding that way was the reason but I figured it would work itself out.

Fast forward to today, and I still have this pain on the very top of my shoulder. I can't really lift anything that is away from my body or over head. I also can't really pull on anything. Even when I roll out of bed, I have to use my left arm to lift me up. From what I found out, it seems to be the Acromion....definately doesn't feel like a rotator cuff issue as it's too high.

Has anyone had something like this? I read that rest, ice, compression and elevation should fix it but I've been resting, tried ice, heat and motrin and it will not go away. I can't even pick up my 5yr old with this injury

Sounds like you may have been locking your shoulder in an impingement and the friction and jarring caused some delayed on set soreness. If you've never had shoulder problems before, I'd go with advil, ice and rest. I personally have slightly hooked clavicals and had to have 1.5cm cut off the end of my left because of an impingement, so I know the pain you're talking about. If ice and rest don't make it go away in a week or so, I'd get into a Shoulder and Elbow speciallist.

      Hope you feel better!

If you would like, PM me (if serious). I have had similar issues and it is traced back to an impingement that has crippled my weight lifting routine for 2 years. I finally sought help. I have been to two diff chiropractors and two orthopedic surgeons. They all told me something different. I have had a rude awakening but through specific exercises and focusing on my shoulders I have gained the "confidence" you lose when you know your shoulder is hurt. I was scared to make any sudden movements or overhead activity. The pain sucks and it was always between my shoulder and collar bone at the top. Hope you can rehab it before it's too late.

Here are some stretches I do with either a softball or a lacrosse ball. These help loosen up my pec minor, allowing my shoulder to drop back. With my shoulder not being yanked forward it feels amazing after a few weeks of breaking it up.

My strongest shoulder pain comes from sleeping on it...have you tried change how you sleep?

thanks for the info TeeShock! I don't really sleep on that side anymore since the injury. I thought it was getting better but it's not. I've noticed on the machine bench press last week that my left side is making up for the right side being hurt, so I can't go back to lifting just yet. I was also playing with my kids' Socker Boppers they got for Christmas and when I threw a right hook, I thought my arm was ripped off...it HURT! Needless to say, 3 months of this is all I can take. It's really starting to limit what I can do.

Sounds like you had the exact same thing I have now. I'll print these out and try them.

Finally made the call to a chiro for tomorrow.

As of right now I'm still having this problem. I've been doing stretches and light shoulder strengthening and this seems to help with the daily routine type stuff but anything involving force/strength is out of the question.

I've been thinking about all the things I can't do and since I'm right handed, I can't do squat didley! I couldn't even throw a punch to defend myself if I had to...I literally have no leverage when it comes to my right arm.

I'll report back after the visit. I'll give them a crack at it and if it doesn't go away after a few visits, then I'll be calling a specialist. I'm literally hoping it just has to be snapped back into place.
