Nope, he's online. I had a personal trainer a long time ago when I first started working out and met some of the same difficulties I mentioned in another thread; lack of attention, crappy methods - basically a waste of money. I think he helped me learn basics, but after that I didn't need him anymore. However, with current trainer, I have learned a lot. Most importantly that losing fat is 95% diet and you have to do it yourself. No trainer in a gym is going to give you results that are made in the kitchen.

he writes nutritional plans and workout routines, she submits bi-weekly reports to him and he tailors the plans based on her progress and goals at the time. i was super skeptical too (it is not cheap), but the plans have worked incredibly well and are always evolving and changing. i follow along with her plans since we train together and even though they are aimed at her body weight and goals i've lost a ton of weight and cut up pretty nicely (obviously we increase my portion size for meals and i do more weight, etc.) the guy who she uses trains a bunch of figure/bikini/physique competitors.

You spot me, on occasion when you pay attention, and usually when my working sets are higher than 135

I guess I can see how that helps...and I'm sure in a few years time when you learn more, you will begin to develop your own diets? At that point...will you think online dietitians are pointless too?

(I'm not the biggest fan of personal trainers either...I just find the application of an online dietitian odd when the information is at your fingertips, and more so when it appears you have an anti-trainer sentiment. Everywhere you go will tell you diet is key)

I still think it's funny how you completely bash personal trainers then talk about how awesome your personal trainer is. A trainer that doesn't monitor form or anything. Just gives you advice online. Blows my mind actually.

Completely bash or say once you've got the basics down you don't need a personal trainer. My main point was having a trainer "monitor" your form 9 x out of 10 isn't what gets you results.

Lifting weights and diet are 2 very different beasts, however. I didn't/don't have enough knowledge about diet/nutrition and macro manipulation to consider myself well versed hence my employing someone to write a nutrition plan tailored for me.

Would a nutritionist do the same thing or need a PT for this sort of thing?

yes and no. I wouldnt think a nutritionist would necessarily know how/recommend to manipulate your fat lower than is deemed "normal." However, I've also never worked with a traditional nutritionist. I would say I am lower bf than is considered normal for my height, but would still like to be leaner. Some PT's have the nutritional info to get you there, but in my experience most PT's just say drop your carbs, add more cardio in order to lose fat once you hit a plateau or they tell you to drop your calories way too low which can cause major rebounds once you add carbs back in or go back to a maintenance level.

You must be a personal trainer or paying a lot for one.

FWIW, I think there is a lot of value in some personal trainers. But those people most likely aren't working for a brand name gym.

Like I mentioned earlier - they've made life changes for my wife. She'd never really ran before and now is doing half marathons.

I think some people (i.e. gt's_girl) are probably beyond a average or above average PT providing value. Hell, 90% of the people I see with PTs probably don't need a true PT - but just a guide. A good one though can help and my wife has had bad and good and clearly knows the difference now.

Hey moron, can you read? She said having someone simply monitor your form doesn't get you results (never did she advocate improper form). I know you're a dense waste of space, but before you go running your mouth off at a women how about you make sure you at least understand what is being said.

I guess if I only squatted 200lbs I'd be running my mouth of at a women too, err, wait, I guess I am right now.
