  • Legs in a slump

I sure hope this is just a temporary slump and not a sign of aging.

I've been having horrible leg workouts lately. Not being able to handle as much weight and not having energy is just getting horrible.

My upper body has been rocking, but the old wheels have just been along for the ride for the last month or two.

I don't lift anymore, but I do run and cycle quite a bit, especially recently with the triathlons I've done. I'm older than you, but when I would start feeling like that (or my times would drop) I'd just give them a rest for a few days and swim more. I had no ill effects.

Have you not been able to handle as much weight because you're not working them out as regularly or what? Most people don't like working out legs. Especially men. Personally, I love it. What is your leg workout? Maybe change it up so it's new and more exciting? About a month ago I just started doing deadlifts and I can't get away from them. They kill not only my legs but my entire back. Plus box jumps. Dude, box jumps are fucking amazing. I'm up to 8 plates stacked on a 24" box. Just the desire to add another plate motivates the hell out of me. I'm off the wednesday before thanksgiving and will be coming to the DFW area. We should meet up at a 24 hour and do a kickass leg workout if you still can't find the motivation to do it.

I'm not sure what is going on. I don't swim at all, but maybe a break is in order.

I work out on a cycle, and never skip legs. The guy that got me indoctrinated to the gym was a freak on legs, so I learned to love doing legs.

I do chest/bi's - legs - day off - back/tri's - shoulders day off - and start all over again. I never, ever skip legs.

I haven't done deadlifts in year. I have gotten kinda lazy, I guess after 26 years in the gym I have gotten stuck in a rut.

Not condoning this...but with your age, have you ever considered HRT?

x2, i can't speak from experience, but i know that i have to get some inner aggression going to hit my legs hard and i'm sure as you get older and have been doing it for 25 years it's probably not as easy to recruit that kind of drive as it probably once was. i don't recommend going all roid crazy when doing legs, but a little "f-you weight" attitude does help me.

No, the wife said she will leave me if my sex drive gets any higher....Hmmmmm I have a good fried that is in his early 30's and went to the Dr. Tests showed he had the test of a 60 year old man. He got started on HRT and gained 20 lbs and said he felt great. He now has energy, and loves going to the gym.

I'm not sure. Hopefully it's a little slump and I'll get out of the rut soon.

Your just getting old.......... Eight years ago I was sliding 9 a side on the leg press and I love doing legs. I laughed last night when I ended at 4 a side. I will say that I do focus on form now as I remember hearing a loud pop in my back one time and decided from that point on more is not always better on the ole led sled. LOL
                Whos your Daddy?

Last month I was doing 10 plates a side for 3 sets of 6-8.

I'm lucky to do 9 plates for 5 reps. I'm sure I'm just in a rut. At least I keep telling myself that.

I like squats and all but just can not get into them much anymore.

5 sets of 5 here with my working set. Add 5 lbs each time I do legs. No half ass squatting here. Go hips below knees or go home n sit on the couch.

I have 10 screws and a rod in my right ankle, and I've had my left ACL reconstructed.

Squats don't agree with me anymore.

                              I'm sorry to hear that.
Unfortunatley, heavy squats(bread and butter), high rep leg presses, and lots of ham work is what builds nice legs IMO.

BTW: I too have two plates and a few screws through my left ankle.
It does affect my flexibility though and even my calves do not ball up symetrical anymore, but luckily...I can still more than hold my own squatting.
