  • Best way to do shoulders with dumbbells?

I love using dumbbbells for military presses, but when I use the 100s, it's a real PITA to get them up from my knees.

Tonight I pulled my right bicep a tad trying to get them up (I'm left handed, so my weak side is the right side).

Do u guys prefer for someone to hand you the dumbbell, or u hold it and just help guide it into position?

I think I'm strong enough for the 105s, but it's frustrating when the hardest part is getting the damn things in starting position.

I have my buddy reach down and grab my wrist to help it up....Just me...

I bump them up with my knees as I lift, then a spotter grabbing the ends of the bell as I move it into position.

Have someone hand it to you. No need to waste energy getting into position. I was stuck on 90s forever doing it myself. after a few weeks of a good spotter I broke that 100 plateau easily.

I've tried this, it's just awkward.

I may do this. It just means finding a competent person to help.

I just don't like anyone grabbing my wrists. I need to have that control.

Just go to the area with the "big boy" weight lifters.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I just don't trust anyone because of size.

I scope out people and watch them before I decide to trust them.

Like reverse grip benching 275-315. I'm not going to have some dipshit spot me on that.

My head keeps me from doing a full range of motion, otherwise, good tip!

Put your hands on some blocks. Or we built some purpose made hand grips out of PVC Pipe.

If you can't do it dont try it. Whats the point of just one range of motion if you can't pick the weight up yourself. Try a clean/snatch with both dumbells to the resting position of a military press. Then sit down and start lifting.

Kinda like this but with both weights and to a resting postion on your shoulders.

Being so tall, I too have the same problem.
Honestly... it's hard just finding someone to pick up the 130's and hand them to me, more or less spot me on them correctly.
I even purchased hooks, that I never really use anymore...

Do you do arnolds as well?

Just for the record, I've never had a problem lifting the 130's...

Since I never even grab them.

24hr fitness only goes up to 125's, so far i havent had any problems just kicking them up with my knees... but for my bro and my bro in law, we pick up the dumb bells to the higher position so they can just lift them and not have to worry about using any energy to get them up...
