    i would hope that anyone who trains for a specific sport would be better at it then someone who trains in the "general" sense.

      I would hope so too. I guess with that rationale, one would need to pick the specific sport that mimics life the best. The question, after all, was about 'overall athletes'.

        And our perspective is that not being particularly good at any one event, especially a fundamental training event, doesnt take the cake either. crossfitters are in good shape but only marginally better than the average gym goer at lifts and cardio. I have fighter friends that will outrun and outlift crossfitters and they don't even try to.

        Basically the question has no right answer. It was just really hard for me to believe that people would name them without either a promotional agenda or a lack of knowledge on other sport training routines. And I'm guessing the fishers and motocross riders were a joke.
